downwardly will in turn position the envelope flap within the auxiliary. 4pocket in a locked position. f l Y y i Another vobj ect of myinvention isrthe provision of a latch plate arranged upon the outer side of the envelope within the auxiliary pocket land including-a plurality of super-imposed ears struck from the body thereof and adapted for selective engage-V .ment within the slotted 'portion provided in the locking plate when the latter is .moved downwardly in a locked position whereby unauthorized inspection of the envelopes contents maybe readily and easilyde`tected owing to the fact that the lockingv plates .will be torn loose when the envelope is opened.
"1V ith the above and Vother .objects in view7k the Vinvention further includesV the following novel features and details of construction, to be hereinafter more fully described, illusvtrated in the accompanying` ydrawings' "and pointed out inV thev appended claims.
In the drawings K f Figure 1 is a side e'levationof the' enve- "lope with the flap yin an open position.
Figure 2 is a Vsimilar view with the flap closed.
Figure 3 is a side elevation of the envelope with the auxiliary pocket brokenV away and disclosing the contents thereof Figure e is a similar view of the envelope and the envelope flap larranged in a locked position within the auxiliary pocket.
Figure 5 is a vertical sectional view taken on]v line 5 5 of Figure 4t.
Figure 6 is a longitudinal sectional view taken on line 6-6 of Figure 4.
Figure 7 is an elevation ofthe locking flaps. Figure 8 isa similar plate. t
p Referring to the drawings in detail,y wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts, the reference character 10 indicates an envelope having an elongated extension 11 provided upon its iiap 12 view of the latch e and which includesY one portion of a snap fastener as indicated' at 18-upon its'linner f side, the pulpoSe ofwhich will be. presently apparent. I Y f 4 Positioned upon thecorresponding side of the envelope 10 with respect tothe folding of the -fiap 12 and Yextension 11 carriedthereby is an auxiliary pocket let having itsup'per Y end open for the reception ofthe extension-y 11 of the flap :12 therein.
An elongated lockingplate,151.ispositioned within the pocket leand having its respective side edges offset as indicated at 16 and securedto the'corresponding side'of the envelope` 10 in defining a space 17 Ytherebetween,.the purpose of which will bepresent ly apparent. The locking plate 15 has a n row of 'superimposed ears 18 struck therefrom and extending outwardly and "down- 'wardly therefrom while a rectangular opening 19 is provided. Ywithin. the locking plate 15 immediately beneath the ears v18. Thev locking plate 15 is preferably formed of celluloid or some relatively-stiff material in order that the ears 18 struck therefrom 'may not 'easily'bend but .remain in their downwardly and outwardly extending positions.
A latch plate having substantial body Y portion and an elongated tab 21 extending therefrom is mounted l for sliding movement within the pocket 14 uponthe' locking plate 15 and in accomplishing this mounting inwardly vand downwardly opp'ositely disposed 'slotted' portions r22 are provided within the-lower portionof thefci-rcular body i portion 20 thereof in order that the adjacentV side edges -of the rectangular opening 19 provide'd'in the locking plate 15 may be received within these' slotted portions 22 and the re.- maining lower portion of lthe circular body portion 2O extends rearwardly and slidingly mounted upon the rear face of the locking i plate 15,
p The elongatedtabor strip -21 extending from" the circularbodyqpor-tion 2O of 4the latch plate or strip including the remaining half 23 of a snap fastenerto accommodate its companionk half 13 included upon the inner side of the elongated tab 11 of the envelope flap 12 and 'whichY elongated tab or strip 21 further includes an arcuate lshaped opening 24therein for selective reception of lany one of the plurality ofthe super-imposed ears 18 provided upon the locking plate 15 immediately above the rectangular opening 19 provided therein whereby the said ear when vreceived within the arcuate shaped opening` 24 will render it impossible to open the envelope without irst tearing the circular body portion 2O of the latch( plate from, the elongatedvstrip or tab 2l iorined integral therewith. A. cord or string as indicated at 25 depending from the lower.
` Within the arcuate shaped openingrEZl provided therein, according to the vdisplacement of the contents of the respective envelope.
It is thus to be noted trom the foregoing` description and accompanying drawings that this invention provides an exceedingly useful and advantageous envelopetlie contents thereof being protected against unauthorized inspection without notice to the receiver owing to the tact that it impossible to .remove the contents of the envelope Without first tearing the latch plate owing' to the engagement or the. respective ear 18 within the arcuate shaped opening` 24- provided therein,
The invention is susceptible of various changes. in its form, proportions and minor details of construction, and the right is herein reserved to malte such changes as properly fall within the scope ot the appended claims.
Having described my vinvention what is claim-ed isz- Y l. An envelope including` a ilap and having an extension tab extending' from the Hap, a pocket provided upon one sid-e ot the envelope and having' its upper free end open for the reeeptionotthe tab therein, a loclr- Aing plate arranged in spaced relation upon the envelope within the pocket and including a plurality of super-imposed downwardly and outwardly edendinpv ears and a rectangular *opening therein, and a latch plate mounted for sliding movement upon the Vouter face of the locking plate and within the rectangular 'opening therein and having means provided upon its upper end forassociation with the tab within the pocket.
2. An envelope including a iap comprising` an extension tab extending` cent-rally trom the flap, a pocket provided upon one side o1 the envelope and having` its upper side open for the reception ot the tab `therein, a locking` plate arranged in spaced relation upon t1' e envelope within the pocket and includingr plurality otsuperf fposed downwardly and outwardly extending cars, and an elongated 'opening provided therein immediately beneath the ears, a latch plate ,having l a circular body portion with inwardly, oppositely and downwardly vdisposed slotted portions therein for the reception oi the adj acentand iopposite sid-e edges or the rectangular openingv therein', and an elongated strip provided upon the upper por ion of the latch plate including` an arcuate shaped opening thereini'ortlie reception the ears and associating means provided upon its upper end for associating the eX- tension tab therewith.
3. An envelope including a flap comprising an extension tab extending` centrally from the flap, a pocket provided upon one side of the envelope and having its upper side opt-nicer the reception or" the tabthere- 'Y in, a locking plate arranged irl-spaced relation upon the envelope within the pocket and including a plurality of super-imposed downwardly and outwardly extending' ears, anv elongated opening' provided therein inimediately beneath the ears, a latchV plate having a circular body portion with inwardly, oppositely and downwardly disposed slotted portions therein for the reception'of the adjacent and `opposite side edges ot the rectangular opening therein, an elongated st "ip provided upon the upper lportion of the latch plate including an arcuate shaped opening` therein for the reception of the ears, means provided upon its upper end for associating the extension tab therewith, and a cord suspended from the lower edge ot the circular `body portion and extending`A tir-@ugh an opening provided in the pocket for the operation and reciprocatory movement of the former therein.
