TOY LOCOMOT IVE Filed Nov. 3GI 1925 INVENTOR.
Patented Nov. 3d, 1925.
UNITED STATES image1 PATENT OFFICE.
TOY LOCOMOTIYE.
Application filed November My invention relates to toy locomotives and has for its principal object to provide a simple means in connection therewith to produce an imitation putting sound and thus make the locomotive seem even more real to the child. In order to accomplish this, I have conceived the idea of a simple sound producing device which can be attached to toy locomotives already on` the market, or which can be cheaply built into new ones as they are manufactured.
In order to explain my invention, I have illustrated one practical embodiment thereof on the accompanying sheet of drawings, which I will now describe.
Figure l is a perspective view of a toy locomotive with parts broken away to show one embodiment of my invention applied thereto; l
Figure 2 shows the two parts of the invention proper as applied to the showing in Fig. l.
In order to illustrate the inventive idea, I have used two pieces of sand paper which are intermittently rubbed together, although there are other things which can be used to produce the imitative sound. Referring to the. drawings, l, designates a flat spring member, held in a. clip, 2, secured to the undersideof a toy locomotive, 1925, by means of a bolt, 3. Secured to this member, l, is a strip of sand paper, 4, hooked around 1e lower end thereof and at its upper end held in the clip, 2. This can be secured or held in place in any desired manner.
Serial No. 72,174.
Mounted on an axle, or shaft, 5, is a block, 6, around which is wrapped a strip of sand paper, 7, secured in place by means of a thumb tack, 8. As t-he locomotive is moved, the block 6 and its sand paper wrapper revolve and intermittently rub against the yieldingly supported strip of sand paper, t, with the result that the sound is a good imitation of pulling noise of a real locomotive, thus making more real the idea of alocomotive.
I do not limit the invention to the particular means for producing the sound, eX- cept as I may be limited by the hereto appended claim.
I claiin:n
In combination with a toy locomotive having an axle to revolve, of a member on said axle, a piece of sand paper detachably and replaceably around said member to form the outer surface thereof, said member being longer than it is wide, and a spring member secured at one end to said locomotive and curved to a position adjacent said revoluble member, whereby the opposite ends of said member alternately contact with said spring member, and a piece of sand paper detachably and interchangeably secured to the surface of said spring member, whereby said sand papers alternately rub each other.
Signed at Los Angeles, Los Angeles County, California, this 24 day of November,
CHARLES B. SCOVILLE, Je.
