Description

Nov. 30 1926.
J. A. RICHTER RIGHT AND LEFT HAND FEELING KNIFE Filed Dec. 14, 1925 m m m Patented Nov. 30, 1926.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE-- MEET AND LEFT HAND FEELING KNIFE.
Application filed December 14, 1925. Serial No. 75,304.
This invention relates to fruit and vegetable paring implements and especially to a right and left hand'tool.
An object of the invention is to provide a tool of a t pe having a handle to be grasped in thec osed hand and having on one end an open seat along which may be laid a two-edged safety-razor blade which is exposed practically throughout the length of each cutting edge in such manner that either edge canbe applied to and drawn along a fruit or vegetable to be pared or peeled.
Another object is to provide a device of utmost simplicity and of but three parts which are separable, exce ting the blade.
Other objects and a vantages will be made manifest in the following specification of an embodiment of the invention herewith illustrated; it being understood that modifications, variations and adaptations ma be resorted to within the spirit and scope o the invention as here claimed.
Fig. 2.
Fi re 4 is abottom rs ective of the blade liender. pe p Figure 5 is a perspective of the blade seat end of the handle.
Figure 6 is a plan of a razor blade.
The device'comprises a stout handle 2 at one end of which is a bed or. seat 3' transversely convex .on its .top to receive a well two-edged safety I known type of flexible, flat safety-razor blade B having lon itudinal cutting edges and usually provided with three holes. along its center.
The blade is applied to lie lengthwise. along the seat 3 and its corners rest between upstanding shoulders 4 with the lon er, sharp edges of the blade exposed over s ots 5 along which extend side bars 6.
The edges of the blade B overhang the. bars 6, see Fig. 3, for the whole length of the bars so that when the applied blade is drawn along a fruit or vegetable V, the aring readily slides between the blade and t e bar. The underside of the body of the seat 3 inclines well inward and away from the bars thus allowing read escape of the paring P.,
To obtain the best action the blade is bent transversely to conform to the face of the seat by means of a simple concave clamp to said seat, an
member 10 having a central hole 11' for a screw 11 to pass through the center hole in the blade and screw into a tapped hole 12 in the seat body. The bender 10 has lugs. 10
to pass through the other holes and into poc' edges at the sides of the seat 3 and over the bars 6 and slots 5.
The paring end of the implement has a scooping or digging spoon 15 for removing specks, potato-eyes and deteriorations from t e object being pared.
' The invention claimed is:
1. A paring knife including a handle hav:
ing integral therewith at one end a blade seat extending lengthwise of the handle and which is transversely crowned and has a central screw hole from its top downward, a razor blade applicable to the seat to e!- tend lengthwise of the handle, sidebars spaced along and below the crown of the seat and forming gages for cutting, a concave-faced clam member to bend the blade a screw for clamping the pai'ts together and threaded into said screw 2. A paring knife including a handle having integral therewith at one end a blade seat extending lengthwise of the handle and whicli is transversely crowned and has a central screw hole from its top downward,
a razor blade applicable to the seat to extend len hwise of the handle, side bars spaced a ong and below the crown of the seat and forming gages for cuttin a concave-faced clamp member to bend t e blade to said seat, and a screw for clam ing the arts together and threaded into sald screw liole; said seat bein generally depressed in its end of thehan e.
3. A paring knife including a handle having integral therewith at one end a blade seat extending lengthwise of the handle and which is transversely crowned and has a central screw hole from itstop downward, a razor blade applicable to the. seat to extend len hwise of the handle, side bars spaced a ong andbelow the crown of the seat and forming gages for cutting, a coa cave-faced clamp member to bend the blade to said seat, and a screw for clamping the parts together and threaded into said screw hole; said seat being generally depressed in its end of the handle, and having at the ends of said bars a set of upstanding lugs to shield the corners'of the blade.
4. A paring knife having a handle atone end of which is a coaxial, generally oblong: body part having; a depression in its top face, npwardly projecting lugs at corners of the depression, a safety razor blade lying iii-apertures" along the crown, and said body having slots longitudinally between side pairs'of the lugs and over which the edges of the x blade lie, a .clamp' plate having P1113 to pass through the blade and into certain of. said apertures, and a screw for forcing the plate downon andibending the blade transversely to fit the crown.
