ALBERT@ GllOll-SI, OF ELKTON, LWIARYLAND.
FUSE.
Application filed April 22,
ready for the market,
Figure 2 a longitudinal central section of the same, and
Figure 3 an enlarged fragmentary longitudinal section showing the manner of ignif tion.
Referring to the drawings, the numeral 1 indicates a tube which encloses at one end, which for convenience will be called the inner end, a stud Q, preferably of wood which f may be glued to the interior of the tube. A
sembled, abutsthe end of tube 1 and insures proper spacing'.` A cap 15 encloses the free end of the stud and its open end abuts the lower end cf enlargement '14. A band 16 surrounds the enlargement and the ends of the tube and cap and is glued thereto.
`The fuse is assembled by inserting the plunger in the bore of the stud, placing the ezplcsible cap over the head of the plunger, inserting stop member 10, securing the stud in the tube and applying the cap to the stud and securing it thereto by means of band 1G.
For use, as for example a railway signal, cap 15 is torn from the stud and the fuse thrown, preferably against a railway tie, plunger foremost. The point of the plunger will be imbedded in the earth and hold the fuse in a substantially upright position. The impact will disrupt the adhesive wad 13 and force the plunger head upward thereby forcing the ignition cap against tube 10 thereby exploding the cap. rlhe flame due to the explosion will ignite the fuse and the fuse will ignite the combustible material in 'the tube.
llvlhile lt have described my invention as taking a particular form, it will be understood. that the various parts may be changed without departing from the spirit thereof,
and hence I do not limit myself to the prele;
cise construction set forth, but consider that I am at liberty to make such changes and alte 1ations as fairly come within the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A fuse including a tube; a stud having one end secured within one end of the tube; a partition in the tube spaced from the enclosed end of the stud; a fuse leading from the space between the stud and the partition to the free end of the tube; combustible material in the tube; a pointed plunger slidably mounted in the stud; a hollow stop member limiting the slidable movement of the plunger, and an explosive cap'disposed between the head of the plunger and the stop member.
2. A fuse including a tube; a stud having one end secured within one end of the tube; a partition in the tube spaced from the enclosed end of the stud; a fuse leading from the space between the stud and the partition to the free end of the tube; combustible material in the tube; a pointed plunger slidably lil mounted in the stud; a hollow stop member limiting the slidable movement of the plunger; an explosive cap disposed between the head of the plunger and the stop member, and readily breakable means for locking the plunger in its idle position.
3. A fuse including a tube; a stud having one end secured within one end of the tube; a partition in the tube spaced from the enclosed end of the stud; a fuse leading from the space between the stud and the partition to the free end ot' the tube; combustible material in the tube; a pointed plunger sldably mounted in the stud; a hollow stop member i limiting the slidable movement of the plunger; an explosive cap disposed between the head of the plunger and the stop member; and a cap enclosing the free end olf the plunger and removably secured to the stud.
4. A fuse including a tube; a stud having one end secured within one end of the tube and having an enlargement, intermediate its ends, abutting the end of the tube; a partition in the tube spaced from the enclosed end of the stud; a fuse leading from the space between the stud and the partition to the free end of the tube; combustible material in the tube; a pointed plunger slidably mounted in the stud; a hollow sto J member limitingthe slidable movement oi' t 1e plunger; an explosive cap disposed between the head of the plunger and the stop member; a cap enclosing the free end of the plunger and abutting the enlargement, and a band enclosing the enlargement and adhesively sel cured to the ends of the tube and the cap.
5. A fuse including a tube; a stud having one end secured within one end of the tube and having a central bore of two diameters; apai-tition in the tube spaced from the enclosed end of the stud; a fuse leading from the space above the stud to the free end of the tube; combustible material in the tube; a pointed plunger slidable in the stud and having its head in the bore of larger diameter; an explosive cap disposed in said bore above the plunger head, and a hollow stop member secured in the larger bore and spaced fromthe inner end thereof.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specilication.
ALBERTO CIMOROSI.
