UNITED STATES PATENT Fries.
JO$EPH MARTIN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., ASSIGNOB TO UNITED STATES CABINET BED 00., OF NEW YORK, N. Y., A CORPORATION GF NEW YORK.
BEDSPRING-EDGE-SUPPORTING DEVICE.
Applicationfiled May 10, 1927. Serial No. 190,203.
This invention relates to improvements in devices for supporting the edges of bed springs.
Among the objects of the present invention it is aimed to provide an improved device for supporting the edges of springs, and which is positively guarded against lateral movement.
It is a further object of the present invention to provide a device for supporting the edges of bed springs which consists essentially of a single spring pressed link which is connected to the edge of the spring and functions normally to maintain such edge in a predetermined raised position and to return the same to such predetermined raised position after the same has been depressed.
These and other features, capabilities and advantages of the invention will appear from the subjoined detailed description of one specific embodiment thereof illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is an end elevation of the device;
Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same in raised position;
Fig. 3 is a side elevation similar to Fig. 2 of the same in depressed position; and r Fig. 4 is a side elevation of a bed spring equipped with the improved devices.
The edge supporting device also known as a stabilizer consists essentially of a supporting bracket 1, a link 2, and a spring 3 connecting the link to the bracket whereby the link is urged upwardly.
The bracket 1 in the present instance consists essentially of a piece of flat stock extending horizontally and inwardly from the lateral bar 4: of the lower rectangular frame of a bed spring S with its outer end secured to said bar 4 and its inner end portion 5 bent at right angles to the main body portion of the bracket 1.
The link 2 consists essentially of a piece of flat stock having its upper end formed into the loop member 6 to grip the bar 7 of the upper rectangular frame of the bed spring S. Adjacent to the loop 6, the link 2 is bent at right angles to form the vertically extending straight portion 8 continued into the vertically extending downwardly looped portion to 9. The looped portion 9 extends down through the elongated slot 10 in the bracket 1 and has its lower free end extending up face to face with the end portion 5 of the bracket 1 where the link is pivotally connected to such bracket 1.
At the inner end of the slot 10 there is connected the coil spring 3 which extends downwardly and is connected to the trough of the looped portion 9 of the link 2.
The slot 10 is just wide enough to permit the link 2 freely to slide therein but narrow enough to guide the same against unduelateral movement. In the operation of the device,as the upper edge 7 of thebed spring is depressed, it will exercise a tension on the coil spring 3 through the link 2, so that as the edge 7 is again relieved from such pressure, the coil spring 3 will function through the link 2 to raise the edge 7 to its normal position. The length of the link 2 and the length and tension of the spring 3 is such that normally the sprin 3 through the link 2 will maintain the edge T of the bed spring S in normal raised position.
It is obvious that various changes and modifications may be made to the details of construction without departing from the general spirit of the invention as set forth in the appended claims.
I claim:
1. The combination with a bed spring having a lower frame and an upper frame, of a. bracket extending inwardly from the lowerframe, a link pivotally connected at its up per end to the-upper frame and at its lower end to the inner end of the bracket, said link having an intermediate looped portion extending below said bracket. and a spring connecting the looped portion to said bracket.
2. The combination with a bed spring having a lower frame and an upper frame, of a bracket extendinginwardly from the lower frame, a link pivotally connected at its upper end to the upper frame and at its lower end to the inner end of the bracket, said. bracket having an elongated slot therein, said link having a looped portion extending down through said slot, and a spring connecting the looped portion with said bracket.
3. The combination with a bed spring having a lower frame and an upper frame, of a 5 bracket extending inwardly from the lower frame, a link pivotally connected at its upper end to the upper frame and at its lower end to the inner end of the bracket, said bracket having an elongated slot therein, said link having a looped portion extending down through said slot, and a spring connecting the trough of said looped portion with said bracket.
