IMPROVEMENT IN PICTURE-NAILS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 169,730, dated November 9, 1875 ;.applieation filed December 30, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS C. RICHARDS, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvementsin'Picture, Shutter, and Furniture Knobs, of which the following is a specification:
This invention relates to a knob for pictures,
' shutters, and furniture; and the object is to screw, as is represented in the drawing, or it may be especially made for the knob. Around its plane or unthreaded portion is cast a socket, B, of brass, britannia, or other soft metal, which, upon shrinking, when the socket is cooled, is securely united with the screw. At
the end of the socket that comes in contact with the wall, shutter, or article of furniture to which the knob is applied, there is an extended shoulder, a, and the front or outer end is extended to a suitable size to receive the ornamental face or cap (3. This ornamental face,.
cap, or head 0 is secured to the end of the socket B by means of a ring or band,f, of sheet metal, which is arranged around the cap or head, and the socket at the junction of the two, and the upper edge of said ring or band is turned up over the edge of thecap or head, and the lower edge of the ring is turned under and around the edge of the socket, thereby securely connecting the ornamental head to the screw.
