EAR GUARD.
Application filed September 26, 1927.
This invention relates to guards for protecting the ears.
An object of my invention is to provide a guard for protecting the ears against the possible contact of a heated hair curling iron.
Another object ii": my invention is to provide a guard for the ears which may be applied with equal satisfaction to either ear without undue inconvenience.
Other objects more or less apparent will be specifically pointed out or will readily present themselves in the description to follow.
In the accompanying drawings:
Fig. 1 illustrates the manner in which my improved guard is applied to the ear of the wearer;
Fig. 2 is a side view of an ear guard embodying the prefererd form of my invention;
F 3 is a front view of the same; and
Fig. 4 is a sectional view taken on the line li of Fig. 2.
Referring to the drawings, the numeral 1 represents a curved body portion having an outline similar to that of the human ear. The curved body portion is adapted to rest upon and extend over the outer edges of an ear of the wearer, thereby protecting the ear from contact with a heated hair-curling iron or other object used for the treatment of the head or hair. The curved body portion, which is preferably of a general semicircular cross-section and sufficient in size to fit over the outer edges of a human ear, terminates at a widened lower end 2 and an upper end 3. The lower end 2 is widened as at 4, to extend over the lobe of an ear, while the upper end 3 is provided with a V-shaped slot 5 which enables the guard to fit on an ear of an unusually large size. The body portion 1 at each of its opposite sides is bent outwardly as at 6, thereby forming out- Serial No. 222,164.
wardly extending edges 7 which are adapted to contact with the head of the wearer and protect that part of the ear adjacent the head from objects used for treatment purposes.
- ()wing tothe fact that my improved ear guard is comprised of two sections having the same general shape, it is obvious that the same may be used with equal satisfaction on either the right or left ear.
Although I have saown and described but one form my invention may assume, it is to be understood that the same may be embodied in other shapes equally as satisfactory as the one illustrated. I therefore do not desire to have my invention confined to the form illustrated on the accompanying drawing, but rather desire it to be included broadly within the spirit of the appended claims.
Having described my invention, what I claim is:
1. In an ear guard, a body portion adapted to fit over the edges of a human ear having its upper end slotted to permit the guard to fit on an ear of unusual size, and outwardly projecting parts extending from the sides of the body portion, one of said parts being adapted to contact with the head of the wearer, the said projecting parts permitting the use of the guard on either the right or left ear.
2. In an ear guard, a body portion adapted to fit over the edges of a human ear, having one side thereof entirely open and its upper end slotted to permit the guard to fit on an ear of unusual size and its lower end widened to extend over the lobe of the ear, and outwardly projecting parts extendin from the sides of the body portion, one o said parts being adapted to contact with the head of the wearer.
