WALTER O. AMSLER, OF TOLEDO, OHIO, ASF-SIGNOR 350 THE LIBBEY-OW'ENS SHEET GLASS COMPANY, OF TOLEDO, OHL A CORPORATION OF OHIO. .i l i DRAW-TABLE-HEATING UNIT.
Appiaauon fue@ cacher 9,1924. sei-iai No. 742,508.
The present invention relates to a sheet glass drawing apparatus dravwtable, and has particular reference to means for controlling the llame used to heattlie said draw-table.
in importar-t object the invention iste y provide means for controlling angularity of' deflection of the flame used to heat the dra tablo in a manner that the draw-table can bc heated to any desired ten'iperature and maintained at a constant temperature.
A further object of the invention is to provide novel means for controlling the play of the flame on the edge of the draw-table, the said means beingl adjustable from the exterior of the machine.
Other objects and advantages ofthe invention will be apparent during the courseof the following description. y
In the-drawings wherein like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same,
Figyl isa fragmentary longitudinal section showing the device in use,
Fig. 2 is a transverse section thereof,
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary sectional View showing various positions of deflecting means, and
Fig. l is a rear view of the device positioned on the sheet glass drawing apparatus.
In the drawings wherein for the purposes of illustration is shown the preferred embodiment of the invention, the numeral 5 designates a draw-pot containing a source of molten glass 6 from which is drawn a sheet 7 adapted to be bent over a bending roll 8 and passed over a draW-.table'9- Arranged above the draw-table 9 is a flattening table 10 operable upon the drums 11. The draw-table 9 comprises a plurality of preferably metallic links 1Q forming substantially an endless 'deriible belt which is supported upon the drums 13, and which is kept taut by means of an idler 14. The draw-table 9 passes over draw-.table rails 15 which hold the draw-table in a substantially perfectly flat horizontal plane.
To prevent too rapid cooling of the sheet 7 as it passes over the draw-table it is necessary to heat the various links, and to this end a flame 16 is utilize The flame 16 which is produced by a suitable source of gas 17 is introduced Within the draw chamber through the ports 18. Arranged preferably on the exterior of the machine is a support 19 upon which isy pivotally mounted a bracket 20 carrying a slab 21 raisedor lowered as shown 'throughand adapted to theuse. of the adjustable slab 21, Which is c'arried by the pivoted bracket 20, the flame 16 can be directly or indirectly applied to the draw-table, thus controlling the temperature thereof to give the best results.
u is to be understood that the form of the in Untion herewith shown and described is to be taken as the preferred yembodiment of the same, and that various changes in the shape,
size and arrangement of parts may be resortom the spirit of the ed to Without departing fr invention or I claim:
1. In combination with a sheet glass drawing apparatus draw-table, of means to create the scope of the subj oined claims.
a flame to heat the draw table, and means to deflect the flame from its normal path to any desired angle with respect to the drawtable.
2. In combination with a sheet glass dravving apparatus draw-table., of means to create a flame `to heat thev dran7 tableand a slab to deflect the flame to any desired angle With respect to the draw-table. Y
3. In combination with a sheet glass drawing` apparatus draw-table, of means to create a flame to heat the draw table, means arrange-d in the path of the llame to deflect the same, -an'd'means to adjust the said means to control the angularity of the deflection of the loo by the bracket and arranged in the path of the ame to deflect the same toward the drawtable.
6. In Combination With a sheet glass drawing apparatus draw-table, of means to heat the same, including means to Create a flame, a support, a bracket pivotally mounted on the support, a slab carried by the bracket and arranged in the path ofl the flame to deflect the same toward the draw-table, and means to adjust the said bracket and slab.
7. In combination with a sheet glass drawing apparatus draw-chamber having ports therein, of a draw-table and means arrange-Sl in proximity to the ports to deflect a llamo on said draw-table to heat the Same.
8. Means 'for mounting a slab, Comprising` a bracket, a support, meane pivotally mounting the bracket associated withA the slab on the support, and a screw-threaded shaft operable through the bracket for mov-- ing` the 'same together with said slab to adjust the angularity of the latter,
9; The method of heating a. draw table in sheet glass apparatus, which Consists in del'ecting a flame out ol its normal pat-h onta the table at' the desired angle relative thereto.
l0. The method of heating a` draw table in sheet glass apparatus, which consists in creating a llame Whose norma-l path beneath the draw table, and defleeting said fla-me out ot its normal path onto the table at the desired angle relative thereto.v
