STRUCTURE FOR :DRYING WOOlD.
Application filed March 8, 1928, Serial No. 260,188, and in Sweden April 5, 1927.
The invention relates to a structure for drying wood, which is intended particularly for the drying of piles of this material of comparatively short lengths, but which is also suitable for the drying of planks, boards and the like. According to this invention the structure consists of a long frame work with carrier beams arranged on the long sides of the frame for the wood that is to be dried, and a 'coil of piping arranged in the vertical plane in the middle of the structure in Zig-zag form, which is provided for the circulation of a heating medium, for instance, steam, those parts of the pipe C01l which are arranged lengthwise in the frame being arranged approximately in the same plane in which the carrier beams are arranged.
In the accompanying drawing the invention is illustrated in one form by way of example, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation, partly in section, Figure 2 a plan View and Figure 3, a cross section at the line A-B of Figure 1. v
The structure for drying wood shown in the dfawing consists of a frame composed of vertical standards 1, which are arranged in pairs, these being held together by means of cross bars 2 and carrier beams 3. A coil of pipe 4 is ledback and'forth through the entire structure in the longitudinal vertical middle plane of the frame, this coil being carried by the cross bars 2, which also carry the long carrier beams 3. The pieces of wood 5, which are to be dried, are arranged in such a manner that their ends rest on two of the carrier beams which are directly opposite one-another whereby they are brought into such a position, that one section of the pipe coil 4 which is led lengthwise through the frame is directly under the middle of the wood. When steam or'any other heating medium, is passed through the pipe coil,
the pieces of wood are warmed up from the middle outwardly, whereby the moisture contained in the wood is driven out through its ends. It has been proven, that pieces of Wood, which were cut from freshly hewn trees which were in a irozen condition, could bedried in a few hours in this manner, without cracking or warping.
In some cases it may be advisable to the long sides of the frame with walls 6. These are preferablyto be made of boards with hinged doors 7, through which the 1 wood to be dried can put into the structure cover tating the work when bringing the pieces of wood into their proper positions.
WVhen structures, according to this invention, are to be made for the purpose of dry ing planks and boards, two or'more of the together alongside or" one another. Shafts having revolvable rollers may be provided as carrying members and also ior the'purpose of making the work easier whenthe material is placed in the structure. I claim:
in combination a long frame work having A, vertical standards in pairs, cross bars con- A structure for drying wood, comprising,
middle plane of the frame ina zig-zag man'- I ner, the parts of the said pipe coil running lengthwise in the frame being arranged'approximately in thesame plane as the carrier beams and means for'closingthe long sides of the frame, substantially and, for the j purpose as set forth. 7 I
' In testimony whereof ramxmy signature.
