TOY GAME TARGET.

This invention relates to targets, and particularly to toy targets for games.

An object of the invention is to provide a target frame with a plurality of movable plates attached to a frame, with the several plates marked with numerals, and, pictures of various animals concealed normally, but disclosed when the plates are moved, and the plates to be moved by impact against the same as with an arrow shot from a bow or missile projected by any desired means.

A further object of the invention is to {no vide a game target, for amusement, with designated movable plates, with various pic tures of animals concealed normally but disclosed by the moving of the respective plates, and the plates marked or numbered, so that as the same are hit by an arrow or other missle, that the persons who may have caused the plate to move, will be credited or charged with predetermined advance or reduction in his score, as the respective animals are disclosed when the respective plate has been struck and moved.

With these and other objects as may be disclosed from the specification hereinafter set out, I have illustrated my invention by the accompanying drawings, of which Figure 1 is a front elevation of the target,

Numeral 5 represents the rear portion or supporting frame, for the front or holding portion thereof 6. Both said portions or parts connected and spaced apart by any suitable foot block 7. Any suitable cleats for reinforcing the parts may be attached as 8, 8. 8, and side walls 9.

On the front portion of frame 6, are arranged a plurality of target plates marked respectively 1, 2, 3, 4, and 1 both sides thereof, and are connected at their bottoms to the part 6 by simple hinges 11. The plates are normally held in perpendicular position above hinges, by suitable hooks or latches 12, which are mounted on pivots 13, and carry counter weights 14, which tend to hold the hooks normally higher than the tops of the plates, but suitable bent springs 15, attached to the part 6, press outward against the plates when elevated, and so cause the said plates to impinge against the inner sides of the hooks 12 and thus normally overcome the effects of counterweights. The plates when so latched and held up by the hooks will remain in such upright position until the front sides thereof are compressed by the blow of an arrow, or other desired means, whereupon the plates fall open. Pictures of any desiredkind, as game animals 16, 16, may be painted on thespaces covered by the upright plates 1, 2, 3 and 4;

which respective animals when disclosed may be counted as points toward a total as may be determined in accordance with the figures shown on the plates. The plate marked 1 may cover a picture of a hunting dog, and if such plate is accidentally struck or opened, the player will have his credits in the game reduced as may be determined.

The principal animal to bedisclosed is designed as a lion 18, shown in full lines elevated above the part 6, but is to be held down normally concealed behind 6, as shown by dotted lines 18, and only elevated when plate 10 is struck by an arrow or otherwise.

The lion is preferably mounted on a rod 20, slidably disposed in a tube 21 on a spiral spring 22 in the base of the tube. This spring tends to hold the rod elevated, and the lion exposed to view, but is compressed by the operators and the rod normally held down by hook 23 in notch 24: in front side of the rod. The hook 23 being mounted on a pivot 25, and the point thereof normally pressed toward the rod and notch by a spring 26 mounted beneath a flattened portion marked 10 of the hook member on the opposite end from the pivot. Thus when the rod is pressed downward manually by the operator the hook 23 drops into the notch 20 and holds the rod and lion down and concealed, as before stated,

until such time as the lower and flattened portion 10 is pressed inward and the point thereby withdrawn from the notch, when the spring 22 forces the rod upward and exposes the lion to view.

A suitable opening as 27 is provided in the face of the part 6 to disclose to the players the said flattened portion or plate 10, and when the players strike such plate 10 and disclose the lion, any predetermined credit may be given the successful person.

Having describedmy invention, I claim as new for Letters Patent:
