This invention appertainsto slide valves and more particularly to an improved valve mechanism for controlling the flow of an op erating fluid lfor a piston and cylinder.
Another object of the invention is to'provide a novel valve and operating mechanism, which is an advancement in the art over the construction shown in my Patent 1,481,619 issued to me anuary 22, 1924 for. pneumatic water lift', and the improved valveis adapted to be utilized on a pumping system such as shown in the mentioned patent.
A further object of the invention is to provide a novel valve body and a novel rocker head connected with the valve body.

Referring to the drawings in detail, wherein similar reference characters designate corresponding parts, throughout the. several views the letter A generallv indicates the improved valve operating mechanism, which comprises thel valve casing 10 including the spaced parallel sidewalls 11 and 12 and the end walls 1 3. VWhen the'slide valve of the body 25 ismoved to right so as to uncover the port16 the arcuate port y26 communicates with the port 17 and the way- 27 registers with the exhaust p0rt'18 and the air is'allowed to eX- f haustfrom the upper ends vof the cylinder 1 the plunger and normally urges the lower endr of the plunger into intimate Contact with a' notch 29 formed in thek periphery of the rocking head 30. This rocking head 30 is of a substantial quadrant'shape and is pivoted at a point adjacent its,anglel on a suitable pivot pin 31. The notch 29 is formed in the periphery of the head adjacent to the loweredge thereof. In operationf ofthe improved device, presuming that the piston 21 is at the upper end of the cylinder and the valve 35 atthe left as shown in Figure 1 of the drawing, thev air or f other operating medium will yil'ow into the casing through the supply pipe 44 and' then through the port 17' from the casing into the upper end of the cylinder forcing the piston to the opposite end thereof. The piston rod 22 will of course beebrought down with the piston and the arm 23 thereof will engagethe upper end of the operating rod 36' whenl the vpiston has almost completed its working stroke and will move the rod 36 downward in i its casing.` This will bring the iinger 38 of the operating arm 37l into contact with the pin 34 and swing the rocking head on its pivot. rllhe `)in 28 will of course be engaged, by one wall of the notch 29 vformed in the head and the valve body rwill be slid tothe right so as to uncover the port 16 and move the arcuate port 26 into registration with the port 17'. The

VThe compressed air from .the casing will now flow through the pipe 24 to the lower end of the cylinder and vthus orccback thepi'ston to its raised position and when the piston is nearing the end oi its travel the upper end thereofwill engage the operating rod 36 and raise the rod andV more the finger 33 in engagement with the upper pin 35 'of the roclingh'ead, swinging the head on its pivot 3'1. The movement of the headwill slide the valve bod 25 tothe left v ,again uncovering the port 17;k he'telescopic plunger A40 willV now assume the Aposition shown inFigure 1 of the drawing and normal*- ly hold the rocker head in the position shown.
