This invention relates to new and useful improvements in devices tor use in thesealing oi envelopes and aims to provide a highly novel, simple, and etliciently operating device in the torni ot a hand implement construced lor permitting oi the rapid and proper inoistening and "sealing ot an envelope. l

An important object of this invention is to provide an implement of this character that is constructed `l'or receiving the lap ot an envelope and adapted to lirst moisten the gun ny surtt-ce ot the vflap andthen press the saine tightly against the envelope body causing the same to positively adhere thereto.

A further and most important object is to provide an article oi this character that is extremely simple in construction and therefore inexpensive or manufacture, the same embodying' but relatively few parts and these so correlated as to reduce the possibility of disarrangement to a minimum.

Vith the 'foregoing and other objects in Yiew as the nature ot the invention will be better understood, the saine comprises 'the novel form, combination and arrangement ot parts hereinafter more fully described, shown in the accompanying drawing and claimed.

N ow having particular reference to the *drawing my novel sealer consists of a water container 5 ot elongated formation and preferably of square shape in cross section which serves also as a handle tor the sealer. The outer end ot this container is provided with threaded nipple G for receiving a conventional threaded cap, not disclosed, this constructionvbeing provided l'for permitting of the ready filling of said container. is indicated in Figure l the opposite end of the container 5 is closed, while leading from the bot-tom wall thereof is a longitudinal tongue 7 preferably of the same material from which the container is constructed, said tongue being' formed at a slight angle with respect to the container so that when the tongue is arranged beneath the flap n, o1 an envelope A in substantially horizontalposition, the container 5 will be raised diag onally with respect thereto so that the hand will not encounter the envelope nor the desk upon which the same is disposed.

The closed end ot this container 5 formed at its loweredge with an opening 8 through which is arranged a moistener wick 9, one end thereof being disposed within the container, while the opposite end is extended longitudinally upon the top side of the tongue 7. The longitudinal and end edges or' this tongue 7 are bent over upon the end and edges of the wick 9 to provide retaining pins therefor, as indicated by the dotted lines in Figure Q and the full lines in Figure t.

As clearly disclosed in the last mentioned ligure, the thickness of the wick material upon the tongue 7 is such that the top surface thereof will be partially above the innerr edge of the said pins so that the gummed surface of the envelope flap a will be 'encountered.

The end wall of the container 5 is former in spaced relation above the tongue 7 with a second longitudinal tongue l0 in parallel relation with said lirst mentioned tongue 7 the second mentioned tongue being of greater length than the first mentioned tongue to extend therebeyond as indicated in Figures 2 and 3. Furthermore, the forward edgel of the said tongue 7 is in rearwardly spaced relation with the edge of the tongue 10 so as to enable the flap a to beV readily engaged therebetween. The rear edge of the tongue l0 is formed with a s ightly raised longitudinal extension, llythe ends ot which are formed with depending 12-12 within which are mounted the end pintles of a pressure roller 13 of a diameter that the bottom surface thereof will be beneath the wick, carrying tongue 7 so that when the flap' a is arranged beneath the roller 13 and above the tongue 7, a longitudinal movement of the sealer will cause the moistening of the under and gummed surface of the flap and the immediate downward pressure of the flap against the envelope body by the roller 13 to cause the same to tightly adhere to the body.

It will thus be seen that I have provided a highly novel, simple, and relatively inexpensive envelope sealer that is well adapted for all the purposes heretofore designated and even though I have herein shown and described the'in vention as consisting of certain detailstructural elements it is nevertheless'to be understood that sonie changes inay be inade therein Without ai'ecting the spirit and scope of the appended claiin.

Having thus described the invention, What I claim is In an envelope sealer of the character described, a liquid container of a shape to provdey a handle, an extension at one end of the container, the saine projecting from the bottoni side thereof, and at oblique relation to the said container, the adjacent end of said container being formed with an opening, a Wick adapted to rest upon said extension and to project through said opening and Within the container, the longitudinal edge of said Vextension being bent upon the Wick to secure the .saine in position, ay tongue projecting outwardly from the end of the container, in spaced parallelism `with the extension, one longitudinal edge of said tongue being adapted to projectbeyond one longitudinal edge of the extension and is provided With'a pair of spaced depending ears, and an elongated roller rotatably mounted between said ears so that the saine ivill depend-vbelenv the plane of the extension. y
