AnMArUnE-rnsrmo APPARATUS. Application filed May as, 1926. sefml in. 112,255.
This invention relates to the manufacture assembled upon the core 22. The chute of bar-wound ar-matures for dynamo-electric conveys the assemblages 20 to the table 32, machines, and one of the objects of the, 1nwhich may beplaced conveniently nearamavention is to make a rapid'and effective test chine for shaplng the ends of the conductors 5 of the, armature for short-circuits between 23 to adapt them to be received by the risers the bar conductors and the armature core. of a commutaton. As each assemblage 20 Further objects and advantages of the rolls down the chute 30, the core 22 will roll present invention will be apparent from the over a metal plate 33 having its upper sur-. following description, reference being had face flush with the bottom surface 34: of the .0 t0 the accompanying drawings, wherein a chute, and each of the conductor ends 23*.in
preferred form of'the present invention is the outer row will move into engagement clearly shown. with a resilient strip 35 of conducting ma- 1 th d ing terial. One end of the strip 35 is connected Fig.1 is a side elevation of a testing deb a screw or rivet 36 to the bottom of the 15 vice constructed in accordance with the presc ute 30, and the other end is provided ithcut invention; a notch 37 which receives a rivet or screw Fi 2 is a top plan view thereof; and 38 which holds the notched end of the strip Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view on 35 against the bottom of the chute 30 but the line 3-3 of Fig. 1 and drawn to a larger prevents endwise movement of the strip. 20 scale than the other Figs. Normally, the strip 35 is bowed away from Referring to the drawings, 20 designates the bottom of the chute 30 to agreater exan armature assemblage which comprises a tent than is indicated in Fig. 1. Due to the shaft 21, a core 22 and a pluralit ofbar weight of the armature and the flexibility of conductors 23, commonly known as alrpms. the strlp 35, the strip 35 will be bowed.
25 Before assembling the bars 23 in the slots of downwardly. by the engagement of the con p the core 22, the core slots are lined with ductor ends 23 with it. The plate 33 is insulating paper. Each bar conductor 23 18 connected by a switch 40, a Ian! '41 and a placed in certain spaced slots of the armaresistance with one ofthe. mains 43 of a col-e, h l t ceiving the active co l relatively high-volta e circuit, for example,
80 sides of two different hair in conductors. a 500-volt circuit. The other main 44 is Then the outer row of con uctor leads are connected with the conducting strip 35, twisted in one direction and the inner row When the testing device, is used the switch in the. opposition. directionrelative to the 40 is closed. If the insulation between the shaft 21, in order tolocate the coil ends in core and an; of the conductors is suificient theproper position forattachment to th to withstand a potential of 500 volts, for
risers-of a commutator, which is assemble example, the lamp will not burn as the arlater upon the shaft 21. 7 mature rolls down the chute 30,- since the As shown more particularly in Fig. 1, the insulation prevents theflow of current from assembly 20 includes a plurality of coil ends any 'of the conductors oi. the core; If the 40 which are arranged in two concentrlc circulnsulatlon is imperfect and cannot withstand lar rows. The conductor ends in the outer a potential of 500 volts at any point between row are designated 23 and those in the any of the conductors and the core, the I inner row 23". Each armature conductorlamp ll'will burn. Then the operator will 'will have a coil end 23 in the outer row. separate the defective assemblage 20 from 45 The circuit testin machine which is about those which have passed inspection. The I to be'described ta es advantage of this feacore and conductors of the defective assemture of construction of the armature as blage may be disassembled, and'reassembled semblflge, afterthe core has been reinsulated.
In the drawings, 30 designates a chute of By the use of the present invention,- in-- 50 non-conducting material and of channelspection is made by .the workman who shaped cross section, through which the asremoves the armaturesi iirom the table'13'1 to semblages 20 may roll, by gravity,- from a the chute, in order that tliey may be conveyed table 31 to a table 32 of lower elevation. vto the next operator. Theconveying of the The farmature' amemblages 20 are placed armatures from one table to the other is not I 55 upon the table 31 after the conductors 23 are retarded by the inspection device. There- 2 bination, an inclined chute, a metal plate fore, no additional time is required for making the inspection for ounds between the core and armature con uctors. The person who places the armatures upon the chute may be t e operator of the machine which is used for assembling the hair in conductors 23 upon the core 22. By e iminating entirely the labor charge for inspection, the cost of production has been materially reduced.
The chute 30 is laterally as well as longitudinally inclined in order-that the armature assemblies 20, in rolling down the chute, will roll toward the wear piece lining a side of the chute, rather than toward the opposite side which is adjacent the ends of the hairpin conductors.
While the form of embodiment of the invention as herein disclosed, constitutes 'a preferred form, it is to be understood that other forms might be adopted, all coming within the scope of the claims which follow.
