6., F. EGAN DISPLAY DEVICE Original filed Aug. 3, 1925 Patented Nov. 6, 1928.
GEORGE F. EGAN, OI JERSEY CITY, NEW JERSEY.
DISPLAY DEVICE.
Original application filed August 3,1925, Serial No. 47,865. Divided and this application filed November 28, 1927. Serial N0. 236,299.
The present invention relates to improvements in display devices, andconstltutes a division of my copending similarly ent1tled application, berial No. 47,865, filed August An object of the invention is to provide an improved display device for holdmg d1S play cards or tags. 7
Another object of the invention is to pro- 10 ducevan inexpensive, simple and durable device by means .of which a card or tag may be displayed on a surface, such as a counter, or by means of which a card or tag may be held upon a shelf without in any way encroaclnng 1 upon the shelf space.
, 2 hereto.
In the drawings, wherein like symbols re With the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention will be more fully de scribed hereinafter, and will. be more particularly pointed out in the claims appended fer to like or corresponding parts throughout the several views,
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a display device embodying my invention and 1nd1- cated as fitted upon a shelf shown in dotted lines;
Figure 2 is an end view of the d splay device; I f
Figure 3 is a transverse section taken therethrough; and V Figure l is a front elevation with a card in place therein.
ln the drawings, 68 and 69 indicate a palr of n'iembers. These members are adapted to engage upon opposite sides of a shelf, as 53, shown in dotted lines. These members are preferably made from the same piece of sheet metal and are shown as connected by straps 70 and T1 ofsubstantially V-shape and having their points extending toward one another. 73 designates a strap shown extending across the upper front portion of the device just below the upper clamp 68. This strap '73 is shown as offset outwardly of the plane passing throughthe two straps 70 and 71. A slot 72 is shown as provided between the forward edge of the clamp 68 and the strap 7 3 for the insertion of a card 27 shown in Figure 4. The card passes in front of the straps 70 and 71 and rests at its lower end upon a ledge 74 formed in one piece with the forward edge of the lower clamp 69 and bent outwardly and upwardly therefrom in offset relation to the plane of the straps 70 and 71.
The card 27 may be inserted downwardly through the slot 72 passing in front of the straps 70 and 71, and be received at its lower edge within the ledge 74. The strap holds the card 27 against falling forward and out-ward.
While I have shown the device in Figure 1 as held upon the shelf 53, it will be readily understood that the device may be placed on a counter or otherlike surface and there display a card. If it be desired to display a card at an angle on a counter it is only necessary to bend up the member 69 sufiiciently to give the front of the device the angle desired.
It is obvious that various changes and modifications may be made'in the details of construct-ion and design of the above specifically described embodiment of my invention without departing from the spirit thereof, provided such changes fall within the scope of the following claims which define the invention.
What is claimed is 1. A display device comprising upper and lower members, end straps of substantially V-form connecting the end portions of said members, a strap extending longitudinally between the first mentioned straps and having a slot for receiving a card, and a ledge outwardly ofthe first mentioned straps and in alinement with said slot.
2. A display device made from a single piece of sheet metal comprising upper and lower members and straps connecting the end portions of said members, a longitudinal strap extending lengthwise between the upper portions of the first mentioned straps and offset outwardly of the plane passing through the first mentioned straps, said dis play device having a slot between the longitudinal strap and the upper member-for receiving a card, and a ledge extending forwardly and upwardly from the lower member between the first mentioned straps for receiving and confining the lower edge of a card. r In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
GEORGE F. EGAN.
