Referring tothe accompanying drawing i by numerals, 1 indicates the body of a Vvanity case, which may be round or other desired shape. A- ca or lid 2 telescopically `fits over part of body 1 and acts as a closure therefor. Body 1 is provided with an ani nular pressed out member or bead 3 which presents an ornamental Vappearance onthe outside, while `presenting a groove on the inside. This groove results in a shoulder' 4 against which the holding ring 5 rests. The groove formed by the pressed out portion 3 isshown as part of a circle, but this could be square or the parts could merely be offset in the lower part ofthe body 1 so as to present a shoulder 4. The particular formation of this part of the vanity caseis of no importance 1f it is provided with some kind of a shoulder 4 so as to permit the ring 5to interlock therewith and be held against an upward movement thereby. Ring 5 has been shown round in cross section, but it could be rectangular or any desired shape without departing from the `spirit of the invention. The ring is mounted preferably above the compact pad plate 6 and acts to hold or. lock this plate in the body 1. This compact plate could be in the nature of a disk or a cup member having any desired form` of bottom and any desired form of upstandf ing flange-for enclosing or receiving a padv 7.

However, the body 1 is provided with an` aperture 1() through which knuckle 9 projects so that all the parts are connected together when the ring 5 iseXt-ending through knuckle 10. If desired, instead of` having'a.V scparateplate 8, the lid 2 could be formed with-an extensionhaving aknuckle 9V as a part thereof.

In forming the ring 5, the same is preferably formed `slightly less than .a circle as shown in Figure 3., and the vend sections 11 and 12 are bent upwardly or Vin ay direction parallel to theaxis of the body 1. The ring 5 is preferably of resilient material, as for instance, metal, and when` the members 11 and 12 are forced toward eachother the ring will be constricted or contracted and will thereby readily move from vbeneath the pull tabs 1.5 and 16. From Figure 2 it will be observed that the plate 6 pinches part of the tape 13 against the side walls of body 1 and also against the lunder Asurface of the` holding ring 5. In thisV way, the tape 13 acts asassistant holding means for holding the' compact plate in position. After the ring 5 .has been released, thepulls or eX- tensions 1.5 and 16V may belgrasped and the tape pulled upwardly, whereupon the com,- pact plate will be pulled out of body 1 or ejected therefrom. Preferably the tape 13 is a very small narrow pieceV of ribbon of a desired color, with the pulls 15 and 16 only slightly overlapping the pad r, whereby ordinarily it presents a pleasing appearance without being in the way.

lWhat I claim is:

l. A vanity case, comprising a body having a` bottom and an upstanding annular vall formed with an opening therein appreciably below the upper edge thereof and an interiorly positioned annular depression in the plane ot the opening, a lid for said body adapted to telescope partially over said upstanding wall when closed, said lid being provided with a curled extension presenting a hinge knuckle, said extension projecting through said opening, and a compact pad holdingring arranged in said annular depression tor holding a compact in said body, Said ring extending through said knuckle. for completing the hinge structure.

2. In a. vanity ease provided with u body having an interior f-houlder` a holding ring interlocking with Said Shoulder and provided with manually actuated means,` tor constricting the ring whereby it may be renmved from said shoulder, said ring normally acting to hold a compact plate in said body, and a hinge knuckle surrounding part ot' said ring and connected with the lid oll said vanity caf-:e whereby the ring acts in the capacity of a pintle for the lid hinge.

3. A hinge and compact holder for a vanity case, comprising a hinge knuckle extending 'from the lid of the vanity case, and a holding ring of resilient material positioned to interlock with said vanity case tor holding a compact therein, said ring being also formed with hand operated members for conetricting the ring whereby it may be released from said vanity case, said holding ring extending through said knuckle for completing t-he hinge Structure.

Ll. ln a vanity case provided with a body having a shoulder, of a resilient holding ring positioned to interlock with said shoulder, said ring projecting beyond the shoulder tor engaging and holding a compact pad plate in said body, said ring being provided with a pair Ot' parallel manually actuated members for conatricting the ring and thereby causing the ring to be released trom said shoulder and said plate to be relea-ed from said ring.

5. In a vanity case provided with a body ha `-ing a shoulder amL an aperture adjacent the Shoulder, of a hinge knuckle connected with the lid ot the vanity case extending through said aperture, a resilient holding ring extending through said knuckle for completing the hinge structure for the lid, said. holding ring being positioned to interlock with said shoulder and project beyond the. shoulder for engaging and holding a compact pad plate in said body.

In a vanity case, a combined holding,r and ejecting member consisting ol a flexible tape-like member adapted to extend across the bottom ot the vanity case and beneath the compact plate held therein and to a point above the side edges ot' the compact plate. .zhereby when the endel ot the tape-like member are pulled, said compari; plate will be removed trom said body.

9. In a vanity case, a body having an upstanding wall and an annular internal groove whereby a Shoulder is presented, and a resilient ring fitting into said groove and extending beyond the groove for holding a compact plate in said body, said ring being open at one point and having projiartiona at each end, said projections` being capable ot movement manually' for constrieting the size o the ring .so that it may be removed from f-aid groove for releasing Said compact plate.
