SUPPORT FOR RING TRAVELERS.
Application filed January 16, 1928. Serial No. 247,015.
My invention relates to supports for ring travelers for spinning or tw1st1ng frames,
wherein the ring is of the horizontal type and seated in the ring rail.
The rings of this type have thelr inner faces lubricated to facilitate the movement and prevent heating the traveler. The lubricated face of the ring is, therefore, so exposed as to soil the end of the thread leading from the rolls and traveler to the spindle in case the thread is broken, and the free contaminated end soils the thread wound upon the spindle bobbin or upon an adjacent bobbin.
The primary purposes of my invention are to prevent the disadvantages above adverted to, and to effect this end in an inexpensive, strong, and firm structure.
To the above ends essentially my invention consists in such parts and combinations of the same as fall within the scope of the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawings which form a part of this specification Figures 1 and 2 are a plan view and a side elevation respectively of a ring traveler and of my novel support therefor,
Figure 8, a transverse section of the support and of the adjacent portion of the ring rail taken on line 3-3 of Figure 1, and
Figure 4, a perspective view of the shield member.

My invention is herein shown in conjunction with a ring rail 6 of usual construction provided with spindle orifices 7, one only of which is shown.
A ring represented generally by 9 comprises a cylindrical vertically disposed body or wall 10 provided with an external intermediate annular shoulder 11, and a horizontal head or flange 12 upon its top projecting equally upon opposite sides of the wall. The portion 1-3 of the ring, below the shoulder 11, frictionall engages the face of the rail 6 within the orifice 7, while the shoulder rests upon the upper face of the rail.
A tubular shield member 15 has a cylindrical inner face 16 but its outer face is of nonuniform vertical contour. The lower portion 17 of the shield wall is of such a thickness as to frictionally engage the inner face of a portion of the ring 9, but its intermediate portion is inwardly beveled or upwardly tapering forming a shoulder 18. ,From the shoulder 18 the upper portion 19 of the wall is cylindrical, and extends to substantially the horizontal plane of the flange 12, forming an annular cavity 21 between the shield portion 19 and the ring wall. The upper edge of the shield portion 19 is slightly spaced laterally from the flange 12 forming an annular recess 23 as a running space for the circular ring traveler 25 upon the flange. The lower extremity of the member 15 has atapering lateral flange 27 engaging the lower end of the ring 9.
The inner face of the ring adjacent the cavity 21 is lubricated for engagement with one of the horns of the traveler 25, and is protected by the shield 15 from exposure to any loose or broken'thread carried by a spindle in the spindle orifice 7.
I claim 1. In a support for a ring traveler, a cylindrical traveler ring, a horizontal annular head upon the top of the ring, and an imperforate tubular shield extending from the bottom of the ring to substantially the top portion thereof, said shield comprising a broad lower portion frictionally engaging the interior face of the ring, and a retracted upper portion spaced from the ring.
2. In a support for a ring traveler, a cylindrical traveler ring, an annular horizontal head upon the top of thering, and an im perforate tubular shield extending from the bottom of the ring to substantially the top portion thereof, said shield comprising a broad body portion frictionally engaging the inner face of the ring, a tapering lateral annular flanged portion extending below the ring, and a neck portion above the body portion spaced from the ring cooperating with the head to form an annular raceway for a traveler.
