STRAINER HOLDER.

The object of my present invention is the provision of a simple, easily manipulated and etlicient device for clamping and holding a strainer cloth on mill; cans and the like.

To the attainment ot the forego-ing, the invention consists in the improvement as here inafter described and definitely claimed..

My novel cloth holder and clamp is ot general annular form. It comprises a plurality of sections 3 preferably ot metal and each of which describes a part of a circle7 retractile springs 4*.- interposed between the contiguous ends oit the sections 3, a continuous ring :3 also preferably of metal, and a circular series oi spaced U-shaped arms 6 each with eyes 'l' and 8 which receive a section 3 and the ring 5.

In the practical use'otl my improvement, the strainer cloth 2 is positioned over the mouth of the can and draped over the can flange 9 as illustrated. rThe ring 5 is then placed over the cloth and immediately Within the cloth portion adjacent to said ilange 9, after which the arms 6, sections 8 and springs 4f. are moved from the positions shown by dotted lines to the positions shown by full lines in Figure 2, whereupon the springs 4 will be stretched and tensio-ned with the result that the coactingl sections 3 and springs et will tightly clasp and hold the cloth against the can 'flange 9 and at the same time will hold the ring 5 tightly in the position shown so that the cloth will be maintained in taut state across the mouth ot' the can without liability of t-he clot-h becoming loose or bcing displaced. in addition to the advantages thus far ascribed to my novel device it will be manifest that the device is very simple and strong and is susceptible ot being easily and thoroughly cleansed which is a desideratum in devices used for straining purposes.

Having described my invention7 what .I claim and desire. to secure by Letters Patent, is:

l. A clamp or holder comprising a. ring7 arms swingable about the ring, and an elase tic annulus carried by the portions of the arms remo-te from the ring.

2. A clamp or holder comprising a ring, arms swingable about the ring, and an elastic annulus carried by the portions of the remote from the ring; said arms being U-shaped to straddle the edge of a can mouth.

3. A clamp or holder comprising a ring` arms swingable about the ring, and an elastic annulus carried by the portions of the arms remote -from the ring; said elastic annulus including arcuate sections carried die rectly by the arms, and retractile springs interposed between and connecting the contiguous ends of the sections.

A clamp or holder comprising` a ring, arms swingable about the ring, and an elastic annulus carried by the portions of the arms remote from the ring; said elastic annulus including arcuate sections carried directly by the arms, and retractile springs interposed between and connecting the contiguous ends of the sections, and said arms being U- shaped and having end eyes receiving the ring and the arcuate sections.

5. A holder or clamp comprising means adaped to rest in a can mouth and an elastic annulus connected with the said means and shittable from a position Within a can mouthforming portion to a position about said portion.
