rllhis invention relates to advertising devices and more particularly to those of a movable and illuminated type. f
One of the main objects of this invention is to provide a holder for transparent or silhouette displays, behind which moves an illuminated color scheme to show-olf the displaycin various shades, making the device especially useful in advertising wearing apparel, etc.
A further aim is in the provisionof means enabling the showing of each display in a plurality of individual and separate colors, six being shown in the drawing.
These and other objects, which will vbecome apparent as the description progresses, are attained by the unique construction, combination and arrangement of elements, more fully delineated and depicted in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a longitudinal sectional view taken through the center line of a display deu vice, made in accordance with this invention.
Figure 2 is a fragmentary, transverse sectional view taken on line 2 2 of Figure 1.
Figure 8 is a fragmentary, partial transverse sectional, partial top plan view talren on line 3 3 of Figure 1.
Figure 4 is a reduced, fragmentary, face view of. one of the display cards.
Figure 5 is a similar view of one of the color bearing cards. f 4
Inv the drawing, the numeral 10 generally designates a rectangular casing, he base of which is provided with an inreaching boss 11 and the top of which has an opening, in a line with the boss, surrounded by inturned walls 12. Rotatably mounted in the boss 1l and extending upwardly is a reduced portion 13 of a vertical shaft 14 having fixed thereon, just above the boss, by a pin 15, a gear 16 meshing with a worm 17,7fixed on the shaft 18 of a motor 19 set in the casing.
- Fixed in the upper surface of the gear 16 is a pin 20 engaging a Gemovement Geneva wheel 21 mounted on a stud 22 fixed in a hub 23 extending downwardly from the top of the casing. g
Fixed on the hub of the Geneva wheel 21l is a gear 24 engaging a mating gear 25 secured on a sleeve 2G loosely encircling the shaft 14.
Loosely mounted intermediate the sleeve 26 and inturned walls 12 a ring 27 having an extending arm 28, integrally formed therewith, supporting a socket 29 carrying an elongated electric light bulb 30, the arm 28 being prevented from rotating by a pin 31 fixed therein and engaging the top of thecasing 10. Y
Integrally formed with the top of the sleeve 26 is a flange 32 having its outer edge 33 down turned and fixed to the underside of the Hange, slightly spaced from the edge-,33, is a framed member 34.
Secured intermediate the edge 33 and the u frame element 34, .is a cylinder 35 having a plurality of equal divisions 86, each of which is of a different color, the lower end of the card being similarly held between a pair' of frame bands 37 and 88, the divisions 36 being separated by vertical ribs 36. i
The upper end 39 of the shaft 14 is reduced to form a shoulder on which rests a plate 40 having its outer edges 41 downturned and to which is fixed an inner band 42 having an offset frame portion 43,y carrying a cylinder 44 having inscribed, painted, etc. thereon, any preferred pictures or advertisingniatter desired displayed, it being understood that the specific figures are transparent, asis the inner cylinder 35, so that the light radiated by the bulb 30 will readily show through and so display the figures in the desired colors.
The outer cylinder 44 is divided into a pluralityof sections by vertical ribs 47 so that any number of separate and individual ligures or inscriptions may be shown on the same cylinder'- Thus, as the motor operates, the gear 16 will be rotated, which movement through engagement with the'shaft 14, will rotate the outer drum carrying the cylinder 44.
Rotation of the gear 16 will also operate the Geneva wheel 21, which in turn will rotate the sleeve 26 carrying the inner color cylinderB, it being obvious that the outer drumhas to rotate 6 times kin orderto rotate the inner drum once.
It will thus be noted that veach display shown on the cylinder 44 will be visible to the onlookers in 6 different colors, thus making this apparatus ideal for advertising wearing apparel, etc.
While the foregoing is descriptive of the. preferred embodiment of this invention, it is to be understood that changes-may be made without the exercise of invention or departe ing from the spirit and scope of the appended claim.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
An advertising device comprising a kbase having a niotontliereiinxan upright shaft eX tending above said hase driven bysaid motor, a sleeve encircling Asaid shaft means actuated by said motor to rotate said sleeve intermit- 5 tently, a cylinder spaced'concentrically and supported by said sleeve, said cylinder having a kplurality of equal yupright divisions, each division being translucent and of a different color, a lighting means in said cylinder, a
second cylinder spaced concentrically frein 10 thefirst cylinder, said second cylinder having an opaque Wallin which transparent igural designs are f01'med,'and means on said shaft f to yrotatefsaid'y second cylinder. In Witness whereof I have affixed my signa- 15 K' ture.`
GUSTAV- MARSCHALL.
