This invention relates to an improved construction of extension device for a bracelet strap; and has for its object to provide such a device formed of two link membershinged together to be folded one upon the other and unfolded to temporarily extend the length of the bracelet, one of the members of the device having side walls with openings therein to receive the ends of tliecross bar on: one end of the bracelet strap whereby this strap end-is detachably and adjustably connected to the extension device.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a plurality of sets of holes in the side walls of one of the link members whereby the ends of the strap cross bar are adapted to enter different pairs of holes feet the working length of the bracelet.
A still further object of the invention is the forming of the ends of the cross baron the strap with heads shaped to conform to and enter correspondingly-shaped holes in the side walls of the link member whereby the ends of the bar may enter and be withdrawn from these wall openings only when the strap end is in a position other than working position.
lVith these and other objects in view. the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, as will be more fully described, and particularly pointed out in the appended claims. 7 H

Figure 1 is a side elevation illustrating my extension device as applied to a watch bracelet. the devieebeing in folded position. Figure 2 shows one of the link members having side walls with a plurality of pairs of openings in the opposite walls.

of which provided with a cross bar having heads or enlargements on its ends to fit into the openings in the side walls of one link member when in a. certain position.

It is found in the practical use of extension devices for bracelets of advantage to provide means for adjusting the operating:
length of the bracelet strap to fit arms of different sizes, and to accomplish this in a simple and effective way, I have formed and to be folded one upon the other to reduce its length to. working size, one end of one. link member being permanently attached to one end of the strap member while the other end of the strap member is pro vided with a cross bar adapted to be adjustably connected to the side walls of the otherlinl: member whereby this working". length may be adjusted .to fit the wrist of the erent wearers. In order to prevent accidental detachment of this adjustable end from its link member, I have enlarged or formed heads on the ends of the cross bar and so shaped these ends as to register with the eorrespondingly-shaped openings in the llu strap I have interposed an extension device for the strap by which its length may be temporarily extended suiiiciently to be passed over the hand of the wearer without completely disengaging its ends one from the other and to accomplishthis I have provided a body link memberlg having side walls 14 with oppositely disposed pairs of holes 22 made in a shape other than round, preferably in heart shape and to this body member 1 have pivotally connected at 15 another sheet metal plate member 16 adapted to be swung over and folded upon the body member in the positions illustrated in Figures 1 and 5,
the extremities of the folding member being turned outwardly forming engaging lips 17 to snap over the ends 18 of the walls of the body member and so detachably secure these two members in folded position.
The free end of this foldable member 16 is permanently attached by a cross pin 19 to the inner end 12 of the bracelet strap while the opposite end 12 of this bracelet strap is provided with a cross bar 20, the extremities of this latter cross bar being enlarged providing heads 21 herein shown as being of a heart shape to pass through the correspondingly shaped opening 22 in the side walls 14C only when these heads are turned into proper position to register with these holes 22.
This cross bar 20 is, however, fixed either by solder or rivets in set position in the strap end 12 so that in order to pass these heart-shaped heads through the openings 22 in the side walls of the lin the strap 12 must be thrown over from its operating position, as illustrated in Figure 8 to its inoperative position, as illstrated in Figure 9, in which latter position the heartshaped head will register with the correspondingly shaped openings in the flange 14 andmay extend laterally therethrough and when this strap end is turned back into its operating position, as illustrated in Figure 8 this head21 is locked in its open ing against inadvertent removal.
By my improved construction, it will be seen that by swinging the end 12 of the of the bracelet to fit wrists of different sizes.
After adjustment has been made and the strap end is turned back into operating position the link part 16 is then folded over onto the link part 13, and the fingers 17 snapped over the ends of the side walls and the mem bers of the extension device are secured to gether in operating position.
The device is very simple and practical in construction and is effective in its operation and by its use the operating length of the bracelet may be readily adjusted and securely locked'in adjusted position and at the same time the length of the bracelet may be extended temporarily by unfolding the hinge link parts to such an extent as to permit the bracelet to be readily passed over the hand of the wearer.
The foregoing description is directly solely towards the construction illustrated, but I desire it to be understood that I reserve the privilege of resorting to all the mechanical changes to which the device is susceptible, the invent-ion being defined and limited only by the terms of theappended claims.
I claim:
1. In a bracelet strap, a pair of link members hinged together to fold one upon the other, a strap section connected to one memher, the other member having oppositeside walls each provided with spaced pearshaped openings, a second strap section, and a cross bar secured to the said second strap section, said cross bar having its opposite ends provided with beads correspondingly formed to fit the said openings. j
2. An extension for a bracelet strap having a pair of strap sections, comprising two link members hinged together to fold one upon the other, one of the strap sections being connected to one of the said link members, the other linkmember having opposite side walls each provided with spaced openings, said openings having a shape other than round, and the other strap section having a cross bar with extending opposite ends shaped to enter the said wall openings when the strap end is in other than working position and to prevent withdrawaltherefrom when the strap is in working position.
