POLISH-ROD .GRIP.
Application filed September 27, 1927 Serial No. 222,393.
The present invention relates to a polish rod grip and has for its prime object to provide a structure for connecting polish rods with a jack or the like.
Another important object of the invention resides in the provision of a device ot'this nature which is simple in its construction, easy to assemble, strong and durable, thoronghly eiiicient and reliable in use, and other wise well adapted to the purpose for which it is designed. I
ith the above and numerous other objects in view as will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in certain novel features of construction, and in the combination and arran ement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In the drawing Figure 1 is a sectional elevation of a grip embodying the features of our invention,
Figure 2 is a section taken substantially on the line 2 2 of Figure 1,,and,
Figure 3 is a perspective view of one of the slips.
Referring to the drawing in detail, it will be seen that the numerals 5 denote two diametrically opposed trunnions having a sleeve 6 disposed thereto and having its axis at rightai ies to the trunnions. The upper portion o; the bore of the sleeve is internally threaded es into tapered portion 7 for reslips 8 having corrugated inner facer surrounding the polish rod 9 or the like. A cap screw 10 is threaded in the upper portion of the bore to engage the slips 8 and is norided with an extension 11 having an annular flange l2 thereon to engage in notches 13 provided in the slips 8. Obviously by i-ierewing down on the cap screw 10 the slips 8 may be tightened about the polish rod.
The trunnions 5 may be engaged in a jaek since in actual practice it attains the features oi advantage enumerated as desirable in the statement of the invention and the above description.
It will be apparentthat changes in the details of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or scope 0t the invention as hereinafter claimed or sacrificing any of its advantages.
Having thus described our invention, What we claimas new is A polish rodgrip comprising-a sleeve, the bore of the sleeve having an upper threaded portion, an intermediate portion tapering from the threaded portion, and a relatively small portion at the smaller end of the tapered portion for slidably receiving with a close fit a pol'sh rod, wedge shaped slips receivable in the tapered portion, a cap screw threaded in the threaded portion; to engage the slips, said slips being arcuate in transverse section and provided with interior notches at their upper ends to form an annular groove, said cap screw having an extension at its inner end with an annular outwardly projecting flange engageable in said notches.
tures.
