APPARATUS FOR DISPENSING LUBRICANTS.
Application filed June 16, 1926. Serial No. 116,433.
truck or portable element adapted and are ranged for the carriage of a plurality of original packages, and also for the support and carriage of means for cooperation with individual packages to dispense the contents thereof; and to provide a special form of package for cooperation with the dispensing means.
The nature, characteristic features and scope of the invention will more readily be understood from the following description taken in connection with the accompanying 0 drawings, forming part hereof, wherein Figure 1 is a side elevational view, partly .in section, of apparatus embodying my im-.
provements.
Fig. 2 is afront view thereof.
Fig. 3 is a rear view thereof.
Fig. 4 is a detail of the piercing element.
Fig. 5 is a longitudinal sectional view of an original. package or cartridge.
' According to my invention, I provlde original packages or cartridges of lubricant each in the form of a cylindrical container or can 5, having a fixed bottom 6, and a friction seal or closure. The latter embodies an inverted cupped plug 7 whose rolle'd flange 8 snugly fits theinner wall of the container; and a ring or collar 9 whereof the outer wall 10 has beaded engagement with the end wall of the container and whereof the inner wall 11 frictionally engagesthe cup of the plug.
In further accordance with my invention,
I provide a cabinet 12 having ground supports comprising wheels 13 and legs 14. Through the medium of the handle bar 15,
the cabinet may be tilted to raise the legs and so be moved from place to lace.
The front wall of the cabinet isprovided with a bracket- 16, having a boss extension 17 wherein is mounted a cranked spindle 18 having a quick acting thread 19, and terminating in a pusher 20. The bracket has a depending arm 21 equipped with a clip 22.
The bottom frame of the cabinet is formed or provided with a socket 23 to support the package of lubricant in upright position. The socket has a nozzle extension 24 for attachment of a lubricating line or hose, and a central aperture 25 wherein is mounted a piercing element 26, whichmay be operated against the resistance offa spring 27 by a pivotal foot lever 28. v
.In practice, a cartridge 5 is removed from the cabinetand centered "by means ofthe socket 23 and clip 22. Depression of the le er 28 causes the element 26 to puncture the bot tom of the can and open the latter to the line. Proper rotation of the spindle 18 advances the pusher 20 and causes the latter to engage and shiftthe plug 7 which, functioning like a piston, operates to discharge the lubricant into the line connection.
Having described my invention, I claim- Apparatus for dispensing grease from original containers, comprising, in combination', a main support,- auxiliary supports for receiving a grease container and centering it with relation to devices for operating on it, one of said auxiliary supports being a cup shap'e element constituting a discharge nozzle for the container, a spring retracted device operatively mounted in said cup shape element for piercing the operating said device, and means operatively mounted in the other auxiliary support for forcing the grease towards the nozzle.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature. FREDERICK D. GATCHELL.
