POP-BOTTLE WHISTLE.
lApplicati on filed May 2a, 1927. Serial No. 194,976.
objects in view, the invention consists in the novel construction and combination of parts,
hereinafter described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and set forth in the claims, it being understood that Various changes in the form, proportion, size, and
minor details of construction within the scope of the claims, may be resorted to Without departing from the spirit, or without sacrificing ges of, the invention.
In the drawings: I
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a bottle, partially filled, with the device of my invention attached to the neck thereof and shown in its operative position.
Figure 2-is an unattached perspective view of the device of my invention showing its construction.
Figure 3 shows my invention in blank form, showing a one-piece construction.
The device of my invention is useful in that it may be used as a toy. Beverage bottles may be sold wit-h my device attached thereto, thereby providing an excellent selling and advertising medium. 7
In carrying out my invention, I provide a blank form 1 which is preferably stamped out of sheet material. The blank form 1 is made substantially in the form shown in Figure 3, having a member 2 and outwardly extending arms 8 and 4. To form my device from the blank 1, the member 2 is bent to form a tubular mouthpiece member 5 and of a shapeas shown in Figures 1 and 2. The outwardly extending arms 3 and 4 are also bent in the form of a ring 6, having an opening 7 at the juncture of the arms 3 and 4, whereby the rin 6 may be expanded or contracted to fit di erent sized bottles. The ring 6 and the mouthpiece member 5 are held in spaced relation by a connecting portion 8 formed integral therewith as shown.
As set forth in Figure 1, the device of my invention is adapted to be operatively positioned adjacent the opening!) of a bottle 10,
said bottle being preferably shown as the general type of bottle in which beverages are vended. The arm members 3 and 4.- are adaptedtoencircle the top or neck portion 11 of the bottle 10 between an annular ridge 12 formed around the opening of said bottle and a similar annular ridge 13- formed directly below said first ridge and spaced therefrom, said ridges tending to hold the mouthpiece member 5 in the desired position with respect to the opening 9. However, if the neck 11 is notformed with annular ridges 12 and 13, it is desired that the arms 3 and 4 be of sufficient springiness to hold it in the desired position on the neck 11.
As shown in Figure 1, the mouthpiece 5 is adapted to be held above and to one side of the opening 9. Said mouthpiece is positioned at such an angle with respect to the opening 9 that'air blown therethrough will enter said opening. It will also be noted that the mouthpiece 5 will in no way interfere with drinking from said bottle. r
The operation of said device is as follows: When a bottle of beverage is vended, it may be vended with the whistle of my invention attached thereto, and the mouthpiece 5 of said whistle is adapted to be placed in the mouth and blown through. The air passing through the mouthpiece in this manner will be directed into the opening 9 of the bottle 10, thereby causing a whistling sound to issue from the opening 9 of said bottle. It will be noted that different depths of liquid in said bottle will cause tones of a varying degree of pitch to issue therefrom.
gaging the neck of said bottle, a mouthpiece extending from said split ring and positioned at such an angle to the opening of the bottle that when the member is attached a person may be able to blow through said mouthpiece into the bottle for causing a sound or sounds to issue therefrom.
3. In a device of the character described ,m- 1. pl
comprisinga strip of material, a portion of said material being bent so as to form a tubular mouthpiece member, arms integral with said mouthpiece member and spaced there- 5 from, said arms being bent so as to engage the neck of a bottle in such a manner as to support said mouthpiece member above the opening IRWIN H.
