Description

Sept. 18, 1928.
W. D. WALKER 'SET OF DICE Filed Dec. 14, 1926 INVENTOR. Wml). Walls er BY 33:
Q K' ZT TORNEY Patented Sept. 18, 1928.
UNITED STATES WILLIAM D. WALKER, OF SACRAMENTO, CALIFORNIA.
SET OF DICE.
Application filed December 14, 1926. SeIiaI No. 154,706.
letters on different faces thereof so that the letters of any corresponding set of faces spell a complete word. In this case I have provided means for preventing any letter of one face being used instead of the corresponding letter.on another face to complete a word, in the event that both or all words contain one or more of the same letter, as frequently happens.
My set of dice is particularly intended to be used in a dice throwing machine such as is shown in my copending application for patent, Serial No. 154,707, filed Dec. 14, 1926, which machine in turn is used in connection with a premium giving system of a store as explained in said application.
A further object of the invention is to produce a simple and inexpensive device and yet one which will be exceedingly effective for the purpose for which it is designed.
These objects I accomplishby means of such structure and relative arrangement of parts as will fully appear by a perusal of the following specification and claim.
In the drawings similar characters of ref crence indicate corresponding parts in the several views:
Fig. 1 is a perspective elevation of a set of the dice shown as provided with a wordmaking series of letters on only one face of the set.
Fig. 2 is a similar view of a set of the dice, with letters on different faces and with control numbers to enable the different faces to be identified regardless of the letters.
Fig. 3 is a similar-view of a set of the dice showing a modified method of identifying the various dice faces.
Referring now more particularly to the characters of reference on the drawings, and particularly at present to Fig. 1, 1 denotes the dice themselves of the usual cubical form and six in number as is customary. All but one of the dice faces have the usual spots 2 thereon, while the remaining face of each dice has a letter 3 thereon which w th the letters of the faces of the other dice form a complete word. This word is preferably that of the name of the store in whlch the aforementioned system is used or of its proprietor.
The dice are permanently installed in a dice throwing machine such as is shown in the above mentioned co-pending application for patent, the result desired being to have the dice when thrown all facing with said letters uppermost.
In Fig. 2 various faces of the different dice l have letters 3 instead of the usual spots thereon, the letters on each correspondlng set of faces spelling a complete word. It frequently might occur however, as shown on the drawing, that the same letters of the; words of two separate sets of faces could be interchanged, which would of course increase the probability of either word being ,thrown. To avoid the possibility of any such letter being considered as forming a part of the word of the other set of faces, all corresponding faces have small identifylrggit numbers or other symbols thereon as The same result is obtained in connection with the letters 3 on the faces of the set of dice 1 shown in Fig. 3, by coloring each set of faces distinct from the others, as indicated by the shade lines 5. With either form of identification means 1t may be readily ascertained by a glance whether the letters of a. word'if formed by throwing the dice, all belong to the same set of faces or not.
From the foregoing description it will be readily seen that I have produced such a device as substantially fulfills the objects of the invention as set forth herein.
VVhile this specification sets forth in detail the present and preferred construction, still in practice such deviations from such detail may be resorted to as do not form a departure from the spirit of the invention,
as defined by the appended claim.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and useful and desire to selected Word on the top faces of the dice secure by Letters Patent is: the side and front faces of the dice will 10 A set of dice, different face of each die expose the spelling of words which will read having letters thereon which, with the letin sense making continuity with the first 5 ters on corresponding faces of the other Words.
dice, form complete and different words, the In testimony whereof I aflix my signature. letters being such that when the dice are I arranged to expose the spelling of a pre- WILLIAM D. WALKER.
