4WINnoW-nTelefonaren MOUNTING.
. Application, led May 24, 1928. SeralNo. 111,432'.
1 The invention relates to inountings `for Window regulators and refers more particularly to Window regulator mountings for use with sheet metal supports. The invention has for some of its lobjects the provision `of a mounting which is simplified in constructionand may be cheaply .manufactured and theprovision of a mounting which is so constructed that it may be readily assembled upon and secured to its support. Other ob jectsv ot the invention residein the noveleatures of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts as more fully hereinafter set forth.` i In the drawings i l i y, f
Figure 1 is an interiorside elevation,` partly broken away, of a vehicle door With a Win- `dovv regulator carried upon a. mounting plate embodying my invention;
Figure 2 is a cross section on the line 22 Figure tis a `perspective view of a modi- `fied mounting.
Mv Window regulator mounting is de signed particularly to be secured to a sheet metal support and in the present instance is shown in conjunction With sheet steel lock board of a vehicle door.' i
1 is the door having the opening 2in its upper portion yand the chamber 3 in its lower portion for receiving the `Window 4 Wh`enloivered from a position closing theV opening. y 5
i is the sheetisteel `lock board of the door;
The Window regulator for raisingr and lovvinstance, has the pivotal `lifter arm `6 which is operatively'connected "at its outer end'jto the Window by suitable `means such as the bearing 7 secured to the arm andthe channel 8 secured to the lower edge of the Window. This arm vhas rigidly secured thereto the Vgear segment 9 Whichy meshes With the pinion 10, this pinion being` rotated from the y crank 11 through suitable irreversible drive mech anisin Within the eup-shap`e`d housing 12.
Forthe purpose oi. facilitating the mounting ofthe Window-regulator upon the lock board, this Window'regulator is carried `as a unit upon a single'mounting which in turn is secured to the lock board. A It is important that the mounting be so constructed that it may be secured to the lock board When assembled infthe door. As shown, the Aparts oi the Window regulator are .carried asa unit upon the body 13 of the sheet metal `mounting plate 111, which body laterally spaced from the lock board. The mounting plate has at its upper end the laterally spaced `legs 15 which extend transversely at an angle to the body 13 and terminate in thefhooled tongues 16 which are adapted to embrace` the lock board. These tongues extendthrougli the elongated apertures 17 in the lock board and have the laterally offset portions 18 and 19 Vbearing-.upon thefoutei` and inner sides, re-
ing plate upon the lock board, are spaced `apart a distance slightly less than the thickness ot' the lock board so that they resiliently but firmly bear upon the Opposite sides of the 'lock board When the `mounting plate is secured thereto. i fTofacilitate the sliding of the tongues over the lock board', the extreme ends of `these tongues` flare outwardly as aty 20. The lower end of the mounting plate has secured thereto the `spacer 21V offa length to maintain the lower end of 4the mounting plate spaced romtlie lock: boardat substantially the same distancei as the` upper end. This spacer is preferably located on the vertical median line of the `mountingy plate and is threadedly `enga,` red\ by the screvsT 22 Vwhich y y "entends through the mounting plate. ering the Window 4:, as shown in the present 1To vassure the firm clamping of the hooked tongues with the loch board, the spacer is so mounting plate is flexed :in d thus `placed under stress `by pullingdownwardly upon the same. As a consequence, play betweenV the inountin g plate and the loch board is prevented and the hooked tongues at the upper end of the mounting plate arermly `held from disengagement froni the lock board. The lock boardaslshovvn is provided with the opening 23 for the passage of thehousing 12 which incloses the irreversible drive mechanism oic the Window regulator andris rigidly secured to the body ot' the mounting plate by suitable means such as the rivets 24.
From t-he above description, it will be Seen that the Window regulator carried asv a unit upon a mounting and that this mountinay be cheaply manufactured. in view ofithe. fact that it and its ,securing means` located at one end may he termedy integral and by a stamping operation. By reason of the factv that the mounting may be readily secured tothe loch board by lirst vpassing its hooked tongues tllirough olon.V gatedapertures in the loch board and then vmoving the mounting downwardly and inwardly toward the loch board andliinally sey Acuring at its lower end, the mounting With l uliator, as shovvn in Figure 4, differs' from the `mounting shown in Figures l, Q'- and 3 in that fthe tongues at the ends ofthe legs 26 of the resilient' sheet metal mounting plate 27 are not hooked to provide portionsspace'd from andl opposite toeach other. These tongues,V
however, have the laterally spaced portions 28 and229, which are adapted to engage opposite sides of the sheet steel lock board 30 atl different elevations; In securing this vmounting plate to the loch board, the tongues are inserted through apertures in the lock board and thefmounting plate is then swung downwardly and its lower end secured in the saine manner as the mounting plate previously described to place the mounting plate under sti'ess..llVith this construction of mount-ing plate more roomis required tor securing t-he same tothe lock board.- However, after it has been secured it functions as etciently as the mounting plate of' Figures l, 2 and 3.
