Description

J, CODER ET AL HOISTING MECHANISM FOR DUMPING TRUCKS July 31, 1928.
Filed June 25, 1926 2 Sheets-Sheet l 03 J CODER ET AL HOISTING MECHANISM FOR DUMPING TRUCKS Filed June 25, 1926 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 Patented July 31, 1928.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HOISTING MECHANISM FOR DUIVIPIN G TRUCKS Application filed June 25, 1926, Serial No 118,5?4, and in France April 26, 1926.
This invention relatesto improvements in and relating to hoisting mechanism for rear tipping lorry trailers comprising upright members pivoted at the front end of theauX- iliary chassis with reference to which the main chassis is tipped, a pulley mounted at the upper part oi each or said members, a drum mounted on said auxiliary chassis, a cable connected to said drum and to the front end of said main chassis, said cable passing over said pulley, means for rotating said drum to tip the main chassis and means to guide said main chassis durlng tipping.
According to the invention, the front end of said main chassis bears downwardly projecting brackets, the lower part of each of which is connected to one end of the cable passing over the corresponding pulley, rollers with cooperating flanges being mounted respectively on the upper part of said brackets for sliding along the corresponding upright members to guide the main chassis during tipping, until the rollers leave said upright members, the brackets coming then in contact, respectively, with their corresponding pulley to act as a guide for the main chassis.
The invention will be described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
Fig. 1 is a side view of the trailer.
Fig. 2 is a side view with the chassis raised in the tipping position.
Fig. 3 is a. front elevation.
Fig. 4 is a plan.
On the front portion of the auxiliary chassis 1 two uprights 2 are pivotally mounted at 8 to a shaft carried by the auXiliary chassis 1. A grooved pulley 4 is mounted at the upper end of each upright over which a cable 5 passes. One end of each of the cables 5 is connected to a drum 6 and each of the other ends 7 to the lower part of a. bracket 8 depending from the chassis 9. This chassis 9, carrying the rear spring shackles 10, pivots about an axis 11 arranged directly above the back axle 12.
In front of each upright 2, a roller 13 and two lateral flanges 14 are mounted on the front end of the main chassis 9, said roller 13 and said lateral flanges 14; cooperating with the upright member during tipping.
To tip the chassis the cables 5 are Wound on to the drum 6 in the direction of the arrow 15, and owing to the bands 16of the uprights 2, the tension on tains the uprights against the chassis continuously. During this operation the rollers 13 roll up the uprights 2 which act as the roller track while any lateral displacement of the chassis is prevented by the flanges 14. Near the end of the raising operation the rollers 13 and flanges relieve the uprights, the brackets 8 then coming in contact with the upper pulleys 4 which then act as the guides (Fig. 2). V
This tippingarrangement described may be applied to any trailer having four wheels.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim is:
In a hoisting mechanism for dumping trucks, the combination with an auxiliary chassis, or a main chassis hinged to said auxiliary chassis, means for-swinging said main chassis on its hinges, said means comprising a winding drum pivotally mounted on said auxiliary chassis, upright members pivoted at the front end of the auxiliary chassis, grooved pulleys mounted at the upper part of saidmembers, downwardly projecting brackets mounted on the main chassis infront of the upright members, flexible hoisting means connected to the lowerpart of said brackets and to said winning drum and passing over said pulleys, and means for guiding said main chassis during tipping, comprising rollers mounted on the upper part of said brackets, guiding flanges disposed laterally in regard to said rollers on the upright members, said rollers and flanges cooperating to guide the main chassis, until the rollers leave the upright members, whereupon the brackets come in contact with the grooved pulleys, to act as guides for the main chassis.
' In witness whereof We aflix our signatures.
