The present invention relates to cars, and more particularly to cars of the type generally used in mines and industrial plants, and illustrated, for example, in my Patent 6 1,525,072, granted Feb. 3, 1925.
The invention has to do primarily with the construction of .the truck, and has as an object the provision of a rugged and'durable truck construction comprising longitudinal- 1e ly extending sill castings.
A further object of the invention is to provide an improved sill bar or casting which is adapted for use with carsot' substantial width, and it seeks to provide a sill bar which extends laterally the full width of the car, thereby providing a supporting structure for the body and side walls substantially integral with the truck and eliminating the usual supplementary and attached bracing which is used when the body or super-structure is'of I greater width than the truck,
Referring to the accompanying drawings wherein there is shown a preferred embodiment of the invention:

Figure 5 is a view similar to Figure 4, shown a portion of the running gear assemble Referring to the drawings for a more detailed description, the truck comprises a pair of inner longitudinally extending sill bar castings 10, and outer sill bar castings 11, the castings being connected by end cross girts 12, extending between the inner sill bars 10, and by an intermediate cross girt 13 extending between the outer sill castings 11 and through openings 14 in the sill cjastings. The various cross girts are connected to lugs 15 formed on the various sill bars, and serve to support a central floor portion 16.
In order that the truck may be adapted for use with cars of substantial width, the
outer sill bars are, provided with top horizontally extending webs or platforms 17 extending outwardly a substantial distance beyond the vertical plane-of the main body 1927. Serial No. 209,358.

These platforms extend a substantial distance throughout the length of the car (Figure 3) and are connected with the main body of the casting by supporting webs 18 which extend from the under surface of the web 17 to the outer side ofthe vertical portion of the castings. The webs 17 may be of any width desired, and, as will be understood, afi'ord a body or super-structure support which is integral with the truck, thereby eliminating side supporting brackets and the like, such as are frequently used for supporting the carsides of the body as illustrated, for instance, in my patent referred to above. The top surface of the casting may be covered by a floor plate 20 (Figure 5) if desired, or, as illustrated in Figure 4, it may serve as a portion of the body bottom.
Body side walls 21 are connected by angles 22 to the web 17, and directly supported thereby. The spaces between the sill bars may be closed by hoods 24 having flanges 24 by which they are secured to. the top surfaces of the sill castings and at each end of the truck, the car bottom is completed by floor plates 25.
As will be understood, a car of this type is intended primarily for reception of stub axles 26, which are received in axle openings 27 in the truck casting, and retaining pins 28 serve to secure the axles against longitudinal movement.
Obviously, various modifications may be I made in the structure illustrated and described without departing from the invention which is defined in the following claims.
