This invention relates to shaving brushes, more particularly to that type of shaving brush having means for attaching a tube of shavin cream therewith and feed the contents of the tube to the brush bristles for use, and has for its object to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a shaving brush of such class with means for separating and thinning out the bristles to permit of the bristles to be readily cleaned when desired.

A further object of the invention is to provide, in A manner as hereinafter set forth, a shaving brush of the type referred to including a slide valve for controlling the discharge of the,cream from the container therefor and furthermore so construct the brush whereby the discharge head of the container will be flush with the slide valve to prevent the discharge of the cream when the brush element is removed for the ,purpose of cleaning the latter.

Further objects of the invention, are to 'rovide, in a .manner as hereinafter set to, which is simple in its construction and arrangement, strong, durable, compact, thoroughly efiicient in its use, and comparatively inexpensive to manufacture. p

With the foregoing'a'nd other object in view, the invention consists of the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter more specifically described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings wherein is shown an embodiment of the invention, but it is to be understood that changes, variations and modifications can be resorted to which fall within the scope of the claims hereunto appended.

Referring to the drawings in detail 1 denotes a tube or container of the compressible type now generally employed for containorth, a shaving brush of the type referred ing a shaving cream and the latter is discharged through the tubular head 2 of the tube 1 and such head 2 may be termed a nozzle. As is well known the head 2 is peripherally threaded and is normallyclosed by a removable cap having threaded engage- 'ment with the peripheral threads of the head 2. The cap is not shown. I The tube or container 1 is adapted to be mounted within the handle of the brush and with the tube in an inverted position and further with the closure cap for the head 2 removed. The length of the tube 1 is slightl less than the length of the chamber forme in the handle of the brush and which will be hereinafter referred to A shaving brush of the type referred to, in accordance with this invention, comprises a handle section referred to generally by the reference character 3 and a brush section referred to generall' by the reference character 4. The han le section 3 consists of tubular member 5 of appropriate diameter and a combined couplin and socket forming member 6. The inner lameter of the memher 5 is greater than inner diameter 0 a socket 7 formed in the inner end of the member'6. The outer end of the member 5 is enlarged as at 8 and has its inner end formed with internal threads 9. The periphery of the member 6 at the inner end thereof is formed with threads 10 engaged by the threads 9 whereby the members 5 and 6 are detachably connected together. The member 6 coactswith the socket 7 to pro vide a chamber 11 in whichis mounted the container 1. The bottom of the socket 7 and which is indicated at 12 is of hopper like form. The diameter of the socket 7 is such as to snugly engage that portion of the container from which the breast 14 projects. The discharge f the cream through the head or nozzle 2 is controlled by a slide valve 21 which extends across the edge of mediate portion 16 of the member 6 is provided with a groove 24 for the slide valve 21 and the latter projects from the intermediate ortion 16 and is bent at an angle to provi e a finger piece 22. The length of that portion of the slide valve 21 which is mounted in the intermediate portion 16 is of less length than the diameter of the socket 18. The slide valve 21 is arranged at the outer end of the channel oi passage 19. The oove is indicated at 24. The wall of t e socket 18 is provided with threads 25 The brush section 4 includes a set of bristles 25 and means for anchoring one end of said set together, as well as for separating'and thinning the bristles of the set.

With reference to Figures .1 and 2, the bristles 25 of the set, at-one end thereof are embedded in a binder of rubber 26, in the form of an annulus and which is ar-, ranged between a threaded collar 28 and a combined bristle separating and thinning element 27 spaced from and connected at its .inner end by a fiat annulus 27 with the collar 28. The annulus 27 is integral with such collar and element. The threads of the collar engage with the threads 25 whereby the brnsh section 4 is detachably connected to the member 6.

The element 27 consists of a hollow, frusto-conical shaped body 29 open at each end and provided with spaced openings 30 for the reception of portions of the binder 26, The element 27 separates the bristles at their secured inner portions, as well as adjacent thereto. The element 27 further binds the bristles together adjacent the inner connection with the collar 28, will anchor" ends thereof whereby said element 27, in

the secured inner portions of the bristles thereto. The element 27 connection with the bristles provides a discharge passage for the cream, that is to say a passage for conducting the cream discharged from the container when the valve 21 is shifted to open position. The element 27 further provides in connection with the bristles a part of said passage positioned outwardly with respect to the element 27, that is to say with respect to the larger end of the element 27. The passage formed by the element 27 in connection with the bristles, tapers in an opposite direction. That part of the discharge passage positioned outwardly with respect to the element 27 is indicated at 31. When the set of bristles are removed together with the collar 23 and elements 27 I or detached from the member 6, the element upper or reduced inner end of the element the head or nozzle 2, see Figure 1. With reference to Figure 4 the combined bristle separating and thinning element 1s indicated at 34, is of frusto conoidal contour and formed with a series of radially disposed slots 35 into which the rubber binder extends.

The element 37 shown in Figure 5 is the same as that shown in Figure 4, with this exception that the slots 36 thereof are of greater width "than the slots 35.

The elements 32, 34 and 37 are frustoconical and open at each end.

It is thought the many advantages of a shaving brush, in accordance with this invention can be readily understood, and although the preferred embodiment of the invention is as illustrated and described, yet it is to be understood that changes in the details of construction can be had which will fall within the scope of the invention as claimed.

What we claim is:-

1. In a shaving brush a combined bristle anchoring, seplaratmg and thinning element' comprislng a ollow annular structure form-- ed with an 0 en bottom and consisting of: a top 1n the orm of an annulus and outer "and inner sides integral with the top and forming respective tubular walls, said top spacing said sides, and the tube formed by said inner side wall gradually decreasing in diameter from said open bottom to said top and with said outer side wall providing a chamber for receiving the inner end terminal portions of a set of bristles, said inner wall providing means for anchoring thebristles to said element adjacent the inner ends of the bristles and further forming axially of the set of bristles a shaving cream .passage gradually increasing in diameter outwardly from said annulus.

2. In a shaving brush a combined bristle anchoring, separating and thinning element the .outer edge of comprising 'a flat annulus, a threaded collar integral with and projecting axially from said annulus, and a hollow frusto-con1cal member having its smaller end integral with the inner edge of said annulus and projecting outwardly from the latter, said member opposing said collar and providing in connection therewith and with said annulus a chamber for receiving the inner, ends of a set of bristles and further forming axially of the set of bristles a shaving cream passa e gradually increasing in diameter outwar ly.

3. In a shaving brush a combined bristle anchoring, separating and thinnin element comprising a fiat annulus, athrea ed collar integral with and projecting axially from the outer edge of said annulus, and a hollow frusto-conical member having its smaller end integral with-the inner edge of said annulus and projecting outwardlyfrom the latter,

said member opposing said collar and providing in connection therewith and with said annulus a chamber for receiving the inner ends of a set of bristles and further forming axially of the set of bristles a shaving cream passage gradually increasing in diameter outwardly, said inner side provided with spaced cutout portions.
