Application filed. March 18, 1927. Serial No. 176,457. I 9
This invention relates to improvements in filing systems and particularly to transfer. filing systems where records are removed from a temporary -to a permanent binder for filing.
The invention is particularly designed for use in connection with the check record books used in connection with that type of record system sold under the trade name of Ekonomik check record system. In this latter system the check record blank book is maintained inside of cover sheets and within the same cover sheets but separated from the record book are the checks. The check record is made in the record book and the check then written and the same binder or cover is used for successive record books and check pads. Thus it becomes necessary in order to keep permanent records that the record books themselves be removed from the covers and filed away into a permanent transfer file.
Up to date I have not seen or heard of any method for binding a number 'of these books together and usually they are filed away loose or tied in bundles. This is a very inefiicient method of filing them away, especially as they often have to be referred to and if left loose they are easily lost and. if tied in bundles it is very awkward to get to them for reference purposes.
My invention therefore is designed as a simple and effective means for hanging the books upon individual hangers and then filing the hangers within transfer filing books of the usual binding post type.
These objects I accomplish by means of such structure and relative arrangement of parts as will fully appear by a perusal of the following specification and claims.
In the drawings similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several views:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of my improved hanger detached.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the hanger showing the record book suspended thereon.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view showing how the hangers with the record books are mounted on the binding posts of the permanent filing covers. 7
Referring now more particularly to the characters of reference on the drawings. my improved hanger comprises primarily a small thin strip of wood or other light material 1 which is of approximately the thickposts 3 of the permanent file covers.
ness of the record books to be suspendedon the hanger, and this strip 1 is provided with spaced holes 2 adapted to fit the binding Secured around the outer side and ends of the strip 1 is a thin metallic facing strip 4 which atits free ends projects beyond the ends of the strip 1 to form small lugs 5. Secured across the lugs 5 and parallel to the inner edge of the strip 1 and spaced therefrom is a hanger wire 6 suitably and permanently secured in the lugs 5 by any desired means.
When the record books 7 are to be transferred from their temporary covers to permanent file covers they are suspended or hung on the wire 6 as shown in Fig. 2. The strips Q'carrying the book 7 are then filed on the binding posts 3 of the permanent record covers 8 and as many as desired may be filed in any one setof covers.
By the means shown the record books will be very' solidly and permanently filedbe tween the permanent covers and ready reference can be made thereto and the leaves of the books may be easily opened and'fully ex posed by reason of the suspension on the wires 6. p
While I have described the invention as being particularly adaptable for use in filing check record books, it will be obvious of course that it can be, used for the filing of any other type of book found adaptable for the kind of permanent filing described.
From the foregoing description it will be readily seen that I have produced such a device as substantially fulfills the objects of the invention as set forth herein.
While this specification sets forth in detail the present and preferred construction of the device, still in practice such deviations from such detail may be resorted to as do not form a departure from the spirit of the invent-ion, as defined by the appended claims.
'Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and useful and desire to secure by Letters Patentis:
1. A hanger for the purpose described comprising a body having spaced openings to receive file binding posts. and an element rigidly fixed connected to the body and extending continuously from end to end thereof on which to hang a book or the like.
2. A filing hanger comprising a fiat rigid and unattachedbody having spaced orifices to receive file binding posts. a binding strip about the back and end edges of the body and secured thereto, the ends of said strip extending beyond the front edge of the body and a hanger wire secured at its end-s to and extending between said extensions in spaced relation to the front edge of the body. 3. A filing hanger comprising a flat rigid and unattached body having spaced. orifices v to receive file binding posts, lugs projecting RICHARD H. DODD.
