GAS BURNER.
Application filed July 26, 1927. Serial No. 208,474.
The invention relates to gas burners of th single or double outlet type, and has for its object to provide the burners with cas ings upwardly extending and tapering in vertical transverse cross section and forming only hold the slides btit will contract the lower portions of the casings into binding engagement with the periphery of the burner pipe, consequently hold the casings in adjusted relation towards each other, and allow the regulation of the secondary supply of air between the burners to the flame.
A further object is to provide a gas burner with a casing extending upwardly therefrom and rotatably adjustable thereon, and an adjustable slide carrried by the burner casing and cooperating with air ports therein whereby the amount of air admitted to the mixing chamber within the casing may be varied.
With the above and other objects in view the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter set forth, shown in the drawing, described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention may b made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device applied to a double burner.
Figure 2 is a vertical transverse sectional view taken on line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Referring to the drawing, the numeral 1 designates adjacent burner pipes having gas discharge perforations 2 therein, and which burner pipes are preferably connected together by a T 3, which may be connected to any suitable source of gas supply. Rotatably mounted on the burner pipes 1 are casings 4 having mixing chambers 5 therein, and which casings have the U-shaped portion 6 underlying the under side of the pipes 1, and it will be seen that the casings can be adjusted inwardly or outwardly in relation to each other for varying the amount of secondary air allowed to pass upwardly between the casings to the flame above the casings. Extending transversely through the casings 4 are bolts 7, which bolts, when tightened slightly contract the lower portions of the casings and additionally hold the burners against displacement on the burner pipe. The bolts 7 also extend through elongated slots 8 in the adjustable slides 9 on the outer sides of the casings, and which slides are adjusted in relation to the air intake ports 10 for regulating the amount of primary air admitted to the mixing chambers 5 of the burner casings, therefore it will be seen that by adjusting the slides the proper mixture of air is easily obtained, and said slides are also held by the bolts 7. The upper sides of the casings 4 are provided with discharge openings 11, through which the properly mixed air and. gas pass to the flame, and at which point the secondary air which passes upwardly between the burner casings is admitted to the flame, thereby insuring a positive and proper supply of air to the flame and gas.
From the above it will be seen that a gas burner is provided, which is simple in construction, may be applied to conventional form of burners now in use, is positive in its operation, and that the burner casings can be easily and quickly adjusted towards each other and the amount of air, either primary or secondary, may be accurately regulated. I
The invention having been set forth what is claimed as new and useful is 1. The combination with adjacent burner pipes, of casings mounted on said pipes and having mixing chambers therein into which gas is discharged from the pipes, of means whereby said casings may be adjusted in relation to each other whereby the amount of air allowed to pass between said casings may be regulated.
2. The combination with adjacent gas burner pipes having discharge openings, of casings rotatably mounted on said pipes and extending away from the pipes in converging relation, said casings being adjustable in relation to each other and having mixing chambers therein into which gas is discharged from the pipes, gas discharge openings in the outer end of the casings, and adjustable slides mounted on said casings and cooperating with air intake apertures in the casings and forming means whereby the amount of air allowed to enter the chambers of the casings maybe regulated.
The combination with a gas burner pipe having discharge openings, of a casing mounted on said pipe and having a mixing chamber therein and a gas discharge opening and an adjustable slide mounted on said casing and cooperating with air intake openings in communication with the mixing chamber.
4 The comb nation with a gas burner pipe having discharge openings, a casing surrounding said pipe and having a mixing chamber and a discharge opening, of an adjustable slide mounted on said casing and cooperating with an air intake opening, a bolt extending through said casing and slide,
said bolt forming means for holding the slide, in adjusted position.
5. The combination with a gas burner pipe having discharge openings, a casing surrounding said pipe and rotatably mounted thereon and having a mixing chamber and a discharge opening, of an adjustable slide mounted on said casing and cooperating with an air intake opening, a bolt extending through said casing and slide said bolt forming means for holding said slide in various adjusted positions and for contracting the casing into frictional engagement with the periphery of the burner pipe.
