Description

July 10, 1928.
G. F.'MALLORY COMBINED WINDOW SHADE AND DRAPERY SUPPORT Filed March 1926 |NVENTOE 'rTd ra iav Patented July 10, 1928.
GLADYS FANNIE MALLORY, OF MARTIN'S FERRY, OHId.
comnmnn wnmow SHADE AND DRAIEBY surron'r.
Application filed March 6, 1926. Serial No. 92,918.
This invention relates to a combined shade and drapery support, and it has for its primary object to provide a support or hanger for window shades and draperies wh ch may be readily swung to a position in whlch is afforded convenient access to the window, as for washing, without either removing such shades and draperies from said support or in any way disarranging thesame.
A further object is to provide a device of the character mentioned which is inexpensive to manufacture, which is readily adjustable to fit windows of different widths, and which may be readily shifted to and from its normal position without ascending a step ladder or other elevated support.
In describing the invention in detail, reference is hereln had to the accompanying drawings, in which-- Figure 1 is a front elevation of the invention, showing it in its normal position on a window casing.
Figure 2 is a top plan view of the same;
Figure 3 is an enlarged end elevation of the same;
Figure 4 is an enlarged detail section of the shiftable member, showing the drapery rod supports, said section being taken on line 4-4, Fig. 1; and
Figure 5 is an enlargedsection on line 5-5, Fig. 2.
Referring to said drawings, 1 and 2 indicate two relatively shiftable sheet metal sections which complementally form a bar-like member A adapted to be mounted stationarily, as by means of screws 3, upon the face of the horizontal cap member 4 of a window casing.
The outer end of, the section 2 has pivotally attached thereto one of two relatively adjustable sections 5 and 6 which complementally form a bar-like member B which is shiftable relative to the stationary member above described, said sections 2 and 6 preferably having their adjacent ends shaped to form complemental members of a hinge having a connecting pintle' 7. Said sections 5 and 6 have in their meeting end portions corresponding longitudinal slots 8 through which are directed connecting screws or bolts 9 which may be adjusted to secure said sections in relatively adjusted position to provide the length ofmember required. Similarly, screws or bolts 10 connect the relatively adjustable sections 1 and 2 of the stationary member A of the support.
Carried by the shiftable or hinged bar B ad acent to the opposite ends of the latter are shade su porting brackets 11 and 12 adapted for t e reception of the usual pins carried by the opposite ends of shade rollers, said brackets being preferably formed integral with and depending from the lower edge of said bar, as shown.
A plurality of hooks 13 for the support of telescoping drapery supporting rods 14 of an ordinary commercial type are mounted in the shiftable or hinged member B adjacent to its opposite ends.
The outer end of the section 5 of the hinged member B has a tongue-like extension 15 which, in the normal position of said member, overlies a projecting lug 16 formed on or carried by the corresponding end of the bar A, thereby to provide for rigidly supporting the said end of the bar B. A. rod 17 attached to and depending from said tongue 15 may be employed for lifting the end of the bar B out of and into supported relation to said lug 16, thereby to avoid the necessity for ascending a step ladder or other elevation to engage and disengage the tongue with respect to the lug.
As a means for preventing sagging of the hinged member B under the weight imposed thereon by the shade and the draperies when said member is swung outward to a position affording access to the window, a supporting brace 18 is provided. Said brace, composed of telescoping members, has one end pivotally mounted in a supporting member 19 fixed at a suitable point on the window casing and inclines thence upward and has its opposite end attached to a lug 20 formed on the section 5 of the member B.
From the foregoing description it will be seen that the invention provides a simple, in expensive and convenient form of shade and curtain support which may readily be swung to and from its normal supporting position with relation to a Window. wFurther, it will. be manifest that various changes in the forms and arrangement of some of the parts may be'resorted to without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention as defined in the appended claim.
What is claimed is I a A holder for shade and drapery fixtures,
comprising a sectional bar for mounting sta-' tionarily upon a window casing, said bar having a hinge member formed at one end thereof and carrying an outstandinglug at its opposite end, a sectional bar adapted for outward swinging movement'relative to the first mentioned bar and having at one end thereof a hinge member complemental to that of said first bar and connected to the latter, the last mentioned bar having a portion adapted to rest normally upon said lug,
" curtain-rod and shade-roller supports carried by said second bar, means connected to 10 and depending from said second bar whereby the latter may be elevated by hand into and out of supported relation to said lug, and a pivoted supporting brace having connection with said second bar and upon which the latter is supported in its outwardly swung position.-
'In testimony whereof, I aflix my signature.
GLADYS FANNIE MALLORY.
