Description
Patented July 3, 1928.
UNITED STATES ROLAND S. SCHWARZ, SR., OF HUNTINGTON, WEST ITIRGINIA..
MOP.
Application filed February 7, 1928.
The present invention relates to a mop and mop holder and has for its prime object to provide a structure wherein the mopping element may be. disposed fiat and will cover the metal part of the mop holder.
Another important object of the invention resides in the provision of a mop holder comprising a pair of fiat elements having portions fitted in a flat like ferrule extension and other portions disposed inside the mopping element.
A still further very important object of the invention resides in the provision of a device. of this nature which is easy to assemble and disassemble, and easy to wring out.
A further very important objectief the invention resides in the provision of a mop of this nature that may be manufactured at a low cost, will prove thoroughly efficient and reliable in use, not likely to scratch objects with which it may come into contact when used.
With the above and numerous other objects in view as will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in certain novel features of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a fragmentary top plan view of a mop embodying the features of my invention showing a portion of the mopping element in section,
Figure 2 is a fragmentary longitudinal vertical section therethrough, and
Figure 3 is a perspective view of one of the mop holding elements.
Referring to the drawing in detail it will be seen that the mopping element is denoted by the numeral 5 and is formed in a plurality of laminations having laterally extending pockets 6' provided between the laminations by means of stitches 7, a common entrance 8 being provided at the center.
L-shaped members L are made of flat metal to provide arms 9 for positioning in the pockets 6 and arms 10 which are bent upwardly and formed with depressions 11 which are adapted to register when arms 10 are disposed alongside of each other at which time the arms 9 are in alinement with each Serial No. 252,480.
other and extending in opposite direction. The numeral 12 denotes the ferrule for receiving the handle 14. The fer-rule is fixed to the handle in any suitablemanner suoli as at 15, the ferrule 12 is formed with an extension 16 of flat hollow construction with a set screw 17 threaded therethrough. This fiat hollow extension 16 receives the arms 10 and the set screw is threaded into engagement with the depressions 11 for locking the arms 10 in the extension 16.
From the above detailed description it will be obvious that I have -devised a structure capable of being assembled very easily and quickly since the members L may be inserted one at a time with their arms in the pockets 6 and then the two arms 10 may be inserted in the ferrule extension 16 and lock the plates by the set screw 17. It will further be seen that the structure may be just as easily disassembled. It will be further seen that the mopping element may be housed and moved flatlike on the door or structure being mopped and in case the mop comes into engagement with objects such as furniture or the like it is not likely to do any harm thereto because of the metal parts being covered by the mopping element.
It is thought that the construction, utility and advantages of the invention will now be quite apparent without la more detailed description. It is apparent that changes in the details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention as hereinafter claimed or sacrilicing any of its advantages.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is:
A mop holder of the class described comprising a ferrule provided with a flat hollow extension, a set screw threaded therethrough, a pair of flat L-shaped members including arms receivable in the extension and arms extending in alinement with each other and in opposite directions from each other, said first mentioned arms being provided with recesses in which the set screw is adapted to be received, said first mentioned arms being disposed in a plane oblique to the plane of the second mentioned arms.
In testimony whereof I aiiix my signature.
ROLAND S. SCHWARZ, Sk.
