My invention relates to a new and useful improvement in detachable rubber heels, and has for its primary object. to provide a deviceof this character whichmay be readily and quicklyremovcd or replaced, thereby making it possible fora personto replace worn rubber heels with new ones, or change the rubber heels of apair of shoes, so that the wear will be more evenly disposed and thus increase the life of the rubber heels.

lVith these and other ends in view, this invention consists in the details of construction and combination of elements hereinafter set forth and then specifically designated by the claims.
In order that those skilled in the art to which this invention appertains, may understand how to make and use the same, I will describe its construction in detail, referring by numerals to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this application, in which:

In carrying out my invention as herein embodied, 11 represents a rubber heel made in accordance with my improvements, in which two L-shaped grooves 12 are formed longitudinally thereof, opening upon the innor surface of the heel and a locking groove 1927. Serial No. 18min.

From the foregoing description, it will be obvious that after the attachingdevice 14 has been secured in proper position. upon the bottom of the ordinary heel of a shoe, h t the rubber hee may bere di y app ied thereto by positioning the ,L-shap ed slots 12 over the Lshaped flanges 15, and forcing the heel forward, during which process, the locking member 16 will ride upon the inclined surface 18 and deflect the rear portion of the heel downward so that when this looking member registers with the groove 13, said groove will be snapped over this looking member, and thereafter the rubber heel will be securely held against accidental displacement; and on account of the circular shape of the locking member, a relatively large surface is provided for sustaining the shocks incident to walking, and thus prevent chafing or the wearing away of the wall of the groove 13. This is of considerable Importance inpractice, since heavy strains and shocks are brought to bear upon the fastening device and those portions thereof which maintain the heel in position.
hen the rubber heel is in place only the thin edges of the fastening device appear flush with the inner edge of the heel, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, and thus the appearance of the heel is not marred by the prominent display of metal upon the outer surfaces thereof.
When it is desired to remove the rubber heel, it is only necessary to spring the rear portion thereof downward suliiciently to disengage the groove 13 from the locking member 16 when the heel may be forced rearward, the slots 12 sliding along the Lshaped flanges 15.
