This invention relates to an improved means for holding or locking gears connected with printing wheels in position after they have been set, and constitutes an improvement on the structure shown in the application of Albert S. Vheelbarger and Grover O. Coil, Seri'alNo. 65,532, filed October 29, 1925.
Many machines are provided with print ing wheels or indicating wheels to show the month, day and year in which the transaction recorded occurred. As instances of such machines might be mentioned cash registers and the machine in the aforementioned application.

The month disk 1 is connected to a sleeve 4 which carries a gear 5- which meshes with a. gear 6 secured to a printing wheel or visual indicator 7, on which are affixed characters to represent the months.

The shaft 11 also carries Wheels 23 provided with suit able characters to indicate other data, which wheels 23 are actuated from the hand operated members24, all of which structure is fully described in the said application of lVlieelbarger and Coil, Serial No. 65,532 v If the disks on the shaft 11 are to be used as printing disks, as is indicated in Fig. 2, a platen holder 25 may be employed mounted on a shaft 26 which platen holder carries two platens 27and 28 and an inking roller 29. As the platen holder 25 is oscillated as described in the aforementioned application, the platens 27 and 28 and the inking roller 29 are moved across the faces of the disks on the shaft 11. Naturally this tends to rotate the disks 23 on the shaft 11. The wheels 23 areheld against such rotation by means shown in said copending application, .but the date wheels 7, 12, 16 and 19 have here tofore not been provided with any suitable means to hold them against accidental rotation, as, for instance, the accidental rotation imparted by the rollers 27, 28 and 29 moving across the face ofsarne.
A U shaped member 30 is'journaled on a projects on both sides of the arms shaft 31, which U shaped member is provided with arms or side members 32, one of which members is provided with an extension 33 which may be grasped by the hand of the operator. The arms 32 are provided with a hole 34 through which passes the shaft 31. If desired, a spacing sleeve 35 may be interposed between the arms 32. One of the arms 32 carries a pin 36 which 32 and is adapted to engage the gears 9, 14 and 17, each of which gears is a ten-toothed gear. The samearm 32 is provided with anofi-set linger as is clearly shown Fig. 5, which finger is curved and terminates in a reduced portion adapted to between the teeth on ie twelxetoothed gear 5.
The other arm 32 is provided with a cireular cutaway portion 38 adapted to receive the end of a pin 39 carried by a spring 40 V secured to the wall 21 of the machine. The

The ends of the cutaway portion 41 and pin 42 limit the riiovenient in either direction of the member v30.
In operation, the pin 36 and linger 37 normally engage their respective gears so that accidental rotation cannot be'imparted to the printing disks.
