Application prima anni 5,
' aA device Aof this character which will be ex#v ceedingly simple lin construction and assemblyvand which will embody the qualities of y y d will be easily slid-l 'able when loaded to its full'capacity.
The device is provided with various novel' features of construction and arrangement,
hereinafter more fully described and particularly pointed outfin the claim reference 'y .to be had to the accompanying drawings in which:
Fig. 1 is a side elevation of the garment P? center thereof. ,A Y Y y Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional elevation of the track member and haner with a portion removed from the` line.2-Q;Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a: transverse roller, group and associated members.
Fig. 4.is a transverse sectional elevation on: the line 4-4'of Fig. 6l showing the for-` walls through which the pin is inserted.
ward supporting roller and Vfront' hanger bracket.
of the rear portion of the device and.7
of the front portion of the device.
Liker reference numerals apply to y liked parts in all of the figures.
1 represents the open side upward The channel l` is provided at its rear end with a hanger bracket 2 and at its forward end with a hanger bracket 3. each of said brackets being provided with flanges with screw holes therein by which they may be attached to the under such as t-he top of a wardrobe or a shelf in a closet. The vrear hanger bracket 2 comprises a stirrup member 4 which passes under the channel 1 and upward on each .side thereof and has the latterly extending flanges 5 at its upper end which engage the under surface of a supporting member as above degarments may be liung,
bracket thereon taken on lthe sectional I elevation ,f on the line 3-3 of Fig. 5 showing the rear` f roller 11 is mounted, is supported at its re-vv Fig. 5 is longitudinal .sectional elevation track member which is of channel construction andv is arranged with 1923. seriai Necaogoae. e
scribed and in addition the vertical flanges 6 formed integralV with the stirrup' member and adapted to engage a vertical surface such as the backof a wardrobe, and screw,
holes are providedin the flanges to permit the passage of screws by which the hanger may be attached. f
The hanger is'fastened to the channel by means of a single rivet V7 which' passes through the bottom of the lchannel and the lower portionof the stirrup 4. i
The front hanger is likewise formed like astirrup having a portionr 8 whichA extends' beneath the channel 1 and thence turned up' ward and :spaced some distance away from the sides of the channel to permit insertionr ofthe sliding channel 9. The hanger 3 is provided at its upper end with laterally extending flanges 10 by which it is attached to the underside of avsupporting member.
The sliding channel 9 from which the gar-v mentA rod depends in a manner hereafterfdescribed is arranged with its open side downward and embracesthe fixed channel 1.,
Thissliding channel 9 is adapted to'move longitudinally over the channel 1 and is supported at its forward end by a roller11 mounted nearthe forwardend of the chan-v nel 1. The be'aringpin 12 on which 'thev spective endsby the vertical walls of the channel 1, holes being provided in the said The pin is held inplace after the device isassembledby the side walls of thechannel 9 which embraces the channel 1 and prevent the pin 12 from moving endwise out? of place. Y j
The rear yend of the channel 9 is provided with a roller13 mounted in a clip 14 which is riveted tothe inside of the'topportion of the channel and lextends downward between the vertical walls 'of `the channel 1.l and thev roller 13 bears against the' bottom ofthe said' channel 1. y A bracket 15 embraces the rear end of the sliding channel 9 extending over the top thereof and downward adjacent its sides and is fixed to the said channel 9 by the saine rivet 16 which holds the roller clip 14 in place. The downward extending ends of the bracket 15 are offset toward each other beneath the channel 1 and thence extending downward and are attached by means of a rivet' 17 to the rear end of the garment supporting rod 18 which is supported thereby.
An upward thrust rollei1r 19- is located beftween the lower ends of the bracket 15 and beneath the channel 1 being mounted on a pin 20, both ends of' which-are shouldered and in-serted in holes in the bracket 15. The bearing pin 21 on which the roller 13 is mounted is inserted through holes in the clip 14, and is retained in place by the side walls of the channel 1 which closely embraces the side clip and prevents the pin 21 moving endwise out of place. l
In. order to assemble the structure the holes 22 and 23 in the channel 9 and .bracket 15 respectively are. provided.` opposite the pin 21 so that it may be inserted therethroughv from! outside. the structure vbefore the channel ylis placed .in operative position. At'the extreme forward Send of the device the handle member 24 is located and .is vprovided with a plug 25 which is inserted into the. forward endof the channel 9 and rivet.
edvinfplace, and itis also provided'with a boss. 26 provi ded with a hole to receivethe.
of` construction and cheapness of manufactureinview. The channel membersl and.
9 may be-had of standard size and shape, tliev only machine operationfnecessary to prepare them for assembling being the forming` which may byf quickly cheap manner, the handle member 14 is prefv erably a casting requiring very little ma-Y chine workanditmaybe made adie casting. w-hiehfi's completely fini-shedy in the cast- .ingoperationf and .requires no machine work;
The rod,18,.-a.nd thel rollers and bearing. pins areall.` offsimple andfofordinary con-'- struction.;v g
The device is very easily assembled in the following manner 1: preferably byv tworivets 27 so that itl will netz swivel when in place. and the bracketv 15..is. attached to the rea-r1 end of the. channelsame rivet. at. thesaine time. The rol-ler 11..
is mounted'in' place on' the pin112l in the channel 1 and the roller 13"is placed'i'n position in the clip 14 and the Ypin 21 is inserted through the holes 22 and 23, after which the channels 9 and 1 are assembled one em'bra-cingthe other. After these members areassembled neither of the pins 21 or 12 can become displaced.' The lower ends'of the bracket 15 are spread apart sufficiently to-insert the roller 19 andpin 2O after whichy they are brought together against the' rodi 18 and riveted in place bythe rivet 171 Thehandle member 24 is then placed in position and riveted and the bracket 2l then riveted' in place which completes the assemblingvofv the device. A i
It is preferred to make the relativedimensions of the hangers 2 and 3 such-fthatl the rear end of the channel 1 will hangnsl'i'ghtl5 lower than the forward end thereof'. so`
that the normal tendency of` the sliding: member will be to move by retracted position.
' I claim: Y
An extension garment( support compris"- ing a liXed channel member arrangedV open, side upward, a supporting bracket, ati each" .of its respective ends, an inverted" channel" member arranged open side downwardan'd' embracing the Xed member, a roller mounted in the fixed member near' its forw'aroten'dL1 on a bearing pin which is retainedbyjthe vertcalwalls ofthe sliding member, fa roller supporting clip withinl theslidingfmember gravitytoits l 75,... .I
