UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GORDON E. BOEDDING, OF GRAND RAPIDS MICHIGAN, ASSIGNOR '1'0. GRAND RAPIDS METAL-CRAFT CORPORATION, OF GRAND RAPIDS, MICHIGAN, A CORPORATION MICHIGAN.
REMOVAIBIiY-MOUNTED RECEPTACLE.
The present invention relates to receptacles for cigar ashes and the like, and its object is to provide an improved device of that character (particularly'intended for mounting in anautomobile), in which the ashescontainer may be readily secured to and removed from the base of the device.
This and any other objects hereinafter ap pearing are attained b and the invention finds preferable em iment in, the structure hereinafter particularly described in the body of this specification and illustrated by the accompanylng drawings, in which Figure l is a front or face. view. of the device, partially sectioned vertically on line 11 of Figure 2;
Figure 2 is a vertical sectional view thereof taken on line 22 of Figure 1;
Figure 3 is a face view of the base member of the device; and
Figure 4 is a view in perspective of the container member thereo In the embodiment of the invention illustrated by the drawings, my receptacle -for cigar ashes and the like is shown mounted on the inner surface of the wall or door 1 of an automobile, b means of threaded bolts 2, 2 passing t rough the vertical body portion 3 of the devices base member 4. This base member has an axially-horizontal rotary bearing 5 formed preferably by the outwardly-extending circular flange 6 of said member. The container member of the device is shown in the form of a hollow cylinder 7 having an inner end 8, an outer or front end 9, and an opening 10 through its upper side wall for depositing ashes therein and emptying the same therefrom. This container 7 is removably mounted on the base 4, in the position seen in Figure 2, so as to be rotatable about'its cylindrical axis in, the bearing 5, by the following means and in the following manner: The base 4.- has outwardly-extending hooks 11, 11, spaced apart angularly,-and the container 7 has corresponding keepers, in the form of angularly spaced slots '12, 12 extending able rotary bearing in. which the other of said members may turn, and that either of said members may have the hooks 11, 11 and the other member the keepers 12, 12.
In order to yieldingly hold the hooks against releasing movement, one or both may have a slight projection 13 adapted to seat in a shallow socket 124 in the inner end of the container;
The invention being intended to be pointed out in the claim, is not to be limited to or by details of construction of the particular embodiment thereof illustrated by the drawings or hereinbefore described.
I claim:
In a device of the character described: a base having a rotary bearing and outwardlyprojecting angularly-spaced hooks; a removable cylindrical container mounted rotatably about its axis in the bearing and having an opening through the upper portion of its side and angularly-spaced slots through its inner end, the hooksbeing insertable into the slots respectively and adapted to be moved into holding engagement with the inner surface of said end in one rotated position of the container and to be released therefrom in another rotated position of the container.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand at Grand Rapids, Michigan, this 21st day of July, 1925.
GORDON E. ROEDDING.
