POWDER BOX.

This invention relates to powder-boxes, and in particular, to a vanity device wherein there is a receptacle having a powder applicator permanently mounted therein, and wherein there is a mirror associated with said receptacle that will enable a person to effectively apply powder to the skin.

A further object of this invention is to provide a powder applicator' in which powder is adapted to be stored, and which pro- -vides means whereby, when the supply ot powder is exhausted, the applicator may be refilled.

These objects have been accomplished by means of such structure and relative arrangement of parts as will fully appear by a perusal of the Jfollowing' specification and claims.

With the foregoing and other objects in view which will be made manifest in the following detailed description and specifically pointed out in the appended claims, refer-A ence is had to the accompanying drawings for an illustrative embodiment of the invention, wherein: l

The device involves in its general organization a receptacle 1, having a cover 2 removably mounted upon the same. This cover has provided on the annular wall thereof,v a plurality of inclined, pressed beads providing grooves 4 on the inner side of the cover. A plurality of small projections 6 formed on the outer side of the annular wall of the receptacle, are receivable in these grooves, so that when the cover is inserted over the receptacle, a quarter of a revolution or less of the cover will serve to lock the same firmly in place. A flexible puff is mounted in the receptacle. A resilient, metallic ring having an outside diameter substantially equal to the inside diameter of the receptacle, is mounted within the same and firmly holds the flap 13 against the annular wall of the receptacle. This metallic, ring-like member is designated at 20, and is split as at 21 to provide inwardly extending finger-grips 22. This ring-like member-is formed of resilient materialand normally tends to extend its diameter so that the pressure upon the finger-grips will release the flap 13 from its 4binding engagement with its ring-like member, and the putt' may be removed from the container. A mirror is mounted in the cover 2 and is designated at 23. This mirror is firmly held in place by means of a bezel 24.

In actual operation the device may be` filled through the filling valve, and4 when lilled, the action of this valve prevents powder from leaking out of the puii'. The pul' is made of porous material, and tapping the same upon the skin Will cause la suiiicient quantity of powder to pass through to the applying surface. I claim: Y

1. A powder-box comprising a receptacle, a puii having a marginal flap mounted'in said receptacle, and means engaging said flap for holding said putt in said receptacle.

2. A device as claimed in claim 1, said means comprising a split ring adapted to bear against said flap and hold the same against-the wall of said receptacle.` i

3. A device of the character described comprising a receptacle, a puff mounted in said receptacle, said puit having a bottom and an applying surface, said bottom being extended beyond said applying surface to provide an annular fiap, a split ring having inwardly extending linger-grips mounted in said receptacle, saidl ring bearing against said flap and pressing the same against the wall of said receptacle, a slit in said pui, in-

W wardly extending flaps adjacent said slit, providing a filling valve and a cover for said receptacle.

4. A device as claimed in claim 3, said yl cover having a mirror therein and a bezel holding said mirror in place.

5. A device of the character described comprising a receptacle, a puff adapted to be lled with powder and comprising a por'- ous applying surface and a Hap, and a rel0 silient ring adapted to engage said lap to retain the puff Within the receptacle.
