This invention relates to massage appliances, the movable parts of which are operated by merely moving the device across the body. In this respect it has general reference to devices embodying-rollers.

Broadly, according to the invention, a plurality of parallel rollers of aresilient nature are mounted upon a rigid base member which on its back surface has a handle or hand grip, and the appliance so constructed is adapted to be held in the persons hand and moved across parts of the body after the fashion of a brush.

In a practical construction of apparatus embodying the invention, the base is 'of channel shape and the rollers have roughened, serrated, corrugated or fented peripheral surfaces and are mounted upon spindles which extend across said channel base and are mounted in its walls.

The invention will be the more readily understood by reference to the following description and the accompanying sheet of drawings illustrating a practical construction of apparatus constructed in accordance therewith, and wherein Figure 1 is a front View of the appliance.

Figure 3 is a side view with one of the channel walls of the base broken away for the sake of clearness.

The appliance illustrated in the drawings comprises a base having a flat upper part 1 and downwardly extending side walls 2 which give said base a channeled appearance. The base, which may be a one-piece member or otherwise, may be of wood, ebony or any suitable composition orother material. 7

Between the'channel walls of the base are accommodated a set of parallel rollers 3 rotatably mounted upon spindles which extend across the base and are fixidly mounted in its channel walls. The rollers 3 which are of rubber, may have hard cores to form bearings for the spindles, or in a modifica tion the spindles may be fixed within the rollers, said spindles being rotatably mounted in the channel walls.

The rollers 3 are moulded to such a shape that each has a serrated peripheral surface, the serrations consisting of generously rounded ribs 4 extending throughout the length of the roller. Each roller is also 132,007, and in Great Britain March 27, 1926.

For ease of manufacture, the rollers may each comprise a bunch of cylindrical pieces of rubber or rubber tubing vulcanized together. The rollers may be of any shape other than that shown with peripheral surfaces either smooth, roughened, corrugated,

serrated or fented in any desired fashions Further, said rollers may each taper from the centre to their ends or in other fashion.

A flexible strap handle 6 extends across the back of the base 1, and the said handle may be gripped in the hand, or the hand may be placed under it, in holding the appliance.

Owingto the novel and scientific shape and construction of the rollers and the suppleness of the ribs afforded by the cavities in each, the treatment given by the appliance very closely imitates hand massage treat ment. I

I claim 1. A hand massage appliance comprising a rigid base, a handle thereon, a plurality of spaced spindles carried by said base, resilient rollers mounted on said spindles, said rollers extending throughout the full width of the base and being provided with a longitudinally extending fluted outer surface, and also provided with a plurality of cavities extending longitudinally through and disposed in radial alinement with said peripheral flutes. A hand massage appliance comprising a base of channel shapedforma-tion'and carrying a strap for receivingthe hand of the operator, and a plurality of yielding massage rollers mounted in said base, each of said rollers comprising a body of resilient material having an exterior fluted formation providing throughout the periphery of each roller a plurality of alternating rounded ribs and V-shaped pockets, and alsoprovid ed with a plurality of openings extending longitudinally through the roller between the axis and each of the flutes.
