Description

M. c. BARBOUR v GARMENT RACK CARD HOLDER May 22, 1928. 1,670,291
Filed Feb 28, 1927 I I @zjvpwma A RNEYS.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MILTON C. IB ARBOUR, OF HERMOSA BEACH, CALIFORNIA.
GARMENT-RACK CARD HOLDER.
Application filed February 28, 1927. Serial No. 171,509.
My invention relates more particularly to a simple and, practical device or marker which can be placed on a rod or bar adapted to receive garment hangers, said device or marker being placed between groups of such hangers for indicating sizes, or grades, or
' other difi'erentiations between the articles on card or other data-bearing surface or face can be read conveniently; to provide a device which can be moved along on the rod or bar with the hangers as they are moved, said device having means to prevent the hangers from being moved across the top of said device; to provide such a device with means forming a part thereof to prevent it from being lifted off of said bar or rod without special manipulation; and, in general, to provide a simple, sheet metal division marker for use on the support for hangers which hold articles of various kinds, sizes and grades.
In order to fully explain my invention, I have illustrated one practical embodiment thereof on the accompanying sheet of drawings, which I will now describe.
Figure 1 is a top plan view of a device embodying my invention;
Figure 2 is a side view thereof;
Figure 3 is an edge view thereof, with one side in section, and also showing a support with said device in place thereupon; and
Figure 4 is a perspective view of a rack, with garment hangers thereon, and with my invention shown in place thereon.
Referring now more in detail to the drawings, my device as here illustrated is stamped from sheet metal and com rises an arched body, 5, having its two en s, 6, 6, bent inwardly and upwardly, substantially as shown, to prevent accidental removal of the device from the rod or support, 7 The opposite sides of each face of the device are turned over toward each other, as at 8, 8, to form a card receivingl pocket to hold a card or ticket, 9, on whic may be indicated thelparticular information desired about the garments or articles at either side of said device. The top of the device has a lip, 10, struck upwardly therefrom with which the device can be conveniently grasped in the hand, and it also serves as a means to prevent the garment hangers, designated, 11, from being moved over the top of the same. \Vhen the hangers are moved along on the rod they engage with the lip, 10, and move the marker along the rod therewith.
The device is readily applied to a rod, pipe or other support by being pressed down over the same, the spring ends, 6, 6, yielding sufiiciently to permit the device to pass over the rod or other support. Said ends, of course, prevent the device from being lifted from the rod without being specially sprung outwardly for that purpose. The device has two pockets, one at each side, as indicated for cards or tickets, 9, 9. i
The device is simple, cheap to manufacture, practical, and because the bulk of, the weight is below the rod or support, said device will always hang in PIOPBIQPOSltlOIl and will always automatically return to its normal upright position.
I do not limit the invention to the details shown for illustrative and descriptive purposes, except as I may be limited by the. hereto appended claims.
I claim:
1. A device of the character referred to comprising a sheet metal device of inverted U-shape adapted to straddle over a bar, the end being bent inwardly to underlie the bar to prevent accidental removal, the outer face being formed into a pocket to receive'a card, and the top being provided with an upwardly projecting lip, said device being adapted to hang and swing loosely upon a MILTON e. masons.
