Description

D. MURPHY,
TIE HOLDER Filed Jan. 28, 1927 Dam e/ I ATTO RN EY Patented May 15, 1928.
UNITED STATES DANIEL MURPHY, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
TIE HOLDER.
Application filed January 28, 1927. Serial No. 164,310.
This inr'ntion relates to certain novel improvements in tie holders and has for its principal. object the provision on an improved construction of this character which will be highly efiicient in use and econical in manufacture.
Among the several objects of the invention is the provision of a tie holder, of the character hereinafter set forth, which is adapted to function to retain the tie from slipping and hold the tied portion of the tie in proper relation with respect to the collar.
Other objects will appear hereinafter.
The invention consists in the novel combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawings, showing the preferred form of construction and in which:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a collar showing the invention associated therewith;
Fig. 2 is a sectional detail view taken substantially on line E-22 of Fig. 1; and
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the invention.
In the drawings, 10 indicates a collar of any conventional style. The tie 11 has a portion 12 arranged between the layers 13 of the collar and at the open end portion 14: of the collar the end portions of the tie are tied into a suitable knot 15.
Referring to Fig. 1, my improved tie holder includes a body 16 struck from a single piece ofinaterial. The holder may be formed of any approved material such as celluloid or linen and when fOIlDGClOf celluloid. the celluloid may be transparent to match the color of the collar.
The body 16 has formed therein a hole 17 through which projects the stud 1,8 of the collar button 19 which collar button facilitatcs attaching the collar to the neck-band of a shirt. Formed on the body 16 at its upper corner portions are wings 20 and intermediate these wing portions the body 1.6 provides an outwardly turned lip 18' which is shaped to fit beneath the bow 15 in a manner hereinafter set forth.
In use, the tie is associated with the collar 10 in a well known manner and after the knot 15 has been formed, the body 16 is connected to the collar 10 by inserting the shank 18 of the collar button 19 through the opening 17.
When the body 16 is thus attached to the collar, the wing portions 20 will be disposed between the layers 13 of the collar adjacent the open front 14 and bear against adjacent portions of the tie to prevent the tie from circumferential movement. In this position of the body 16, the lip 18 will engage beneath the knot 15 and tend to project this knot 15 outwardly from the collar at a sufficient inclination to dispose the bow 15 in proper relation with the collar.
From the above description taken in c0nnection with the accompanying drawing it will be manifest that by the use of a tie holder as herein set forth the knot 15 of the tie will be held from sagging to a point near or below the collar button whereby to unpleasantly expose the open portion of the collar. In addition to this it is also apparent that circumferential movement of the tie with respect to the collar will be prevented.
lVhile I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying my invention into effect, this is capable of *ariation and modification, without departing from the spirit of the invention. I, therefore, do not wish to be limited to the precise details of construction set forth, but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent is:
1. A tie holder including a body portion having the intern'lediate portion of the upper edge recessed to provide upstanding ears at the upper corners thereof, and a projecting lip formed unitarily with said body contiguous the lower edge of said recessed portion.
2. A tie holder including a body portion having the interi'nediate portion of the upper edge recessed to provide upstanding ears at the upper corners thereof, and a projecting lip formed uuitarily with said body contiguous the lower edge of said recessed portion, said body having an opening therein disposed in the portion thereof below said lip.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
DANIEL MURPHY.
