KEY EoLnEn.
Application tiled March 19, 1925. Serial No. 16,656.
My invention-relates generally to pocket key holdersof a type in which a plurality of keys are removably and collapsibly mounted in a handle member.
The principal ohject of my invention is to provide a key holder of this character in which a series of plates are detachably connected together to form a handle to receive and support keys, which may be swung outside of the handle for use, and collapsed therein when the holder is being carried as a pen knife.
One embodiment of the invention is illus' tratively exemplified iii the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevational view of the key holder showing keys in closed and projected positions; Figure 2 is an edge view of the same; Figure 3 is a side view showing the keys collapsed within the handle and one of the plates removed to disclose the inner or mid-plate; and Figure 4 is an edge view of one end of the handle with no keys interposed.
Referring to the drawings, 10 designates the handle of the key holder comprising a pair of spaced outside plates 11 and 12 and an intermediate plate 13. Each outside plate is a strip of narrow gauge metal having opposite ends rounded and blending into curved nose portions 14 which project from opposite edges of the plate. The latter plates are further provided with finger recesses 15' disposed in opposite edges midway of their length. Adjacent opposite ends of the end plate 11, the latter is provided with transversely projecting spindles 16, integral with the plate at one end and having threaded openings 17 in the free ends. The other end plate 12 is provided with small openings 18 to register with the openings 17 and the pl;.tes are secured together by screws e openings 17, and which are provided with heads adapted to hold the plate 12 in position. The intermediate plate 13 is provided with a straight midportion somewhat narrower than the corresponding section of the side plate so as to allow ample room for finger manipulation in the recesses 15. The plate 13 is further provided with end openings 20 which receive the spindles 16 and outwardly projecting oppositely disposed pins 21,.whichahut the inside face of the plates 11 and 12 to space the plate 13, and which also act as stops or rests for the keys 22, the heads of the latter being pivotally carried b the projections of the spindles 16 between the plates 11, 12'a11d In the illustrations the invention is shown as comprising two side plates and one midplate to form the handle, while in practice any number of plates may be combined to hold lar e numbers of keys by simply supplying t e end plates 11 with spindles of greater length. To facilitate carrying the key holder, a bale 23 is arranged at one end of the handle.
Having described my invention, what I claim is:
In a pocket key holder, a handle comprising spaced outside plates, one thereof being provided with spindle projections having their free ends bored and threaded, screws disposed in said bores and engaged against the other plate to hold it in position, a midplate mounted on said s indles and provided with projections centrally thereof, to abut the outer plates and act as a stop for the keys hung on the spindles, the outer edgesof the plates being recessed to expose the grooves of the keys, and a halecarried by the screw at one end of the handle.
In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification this 18th day of March 1925.
BENJAMIN MICHAILOVSKY.
