Description
May 8, 1928. 1,669,127 V w. HOUSTON PIE PLATE ATTACHMENT Filed Nov. '7 1927 aim @J Patented May 8, 1928.
WILLIAM Housman, or HAVERHILL, massnonnsnr'rs.
PIE-PLATE n'r'raoimnn'r.
Application filed November This invention relates to certain improvements in attachments for the rims of pie plates when used forbaking pies having a soft, or liquid filling, and, more particular ly, to certain improvements on the type of attachment shown in my prior Patent No. 1,640,409, in which a fluted ring is secured within a flat metalring and seats on the plate rim, the fiat metal ring being of greater internal diameter than the periphery of the plate rim and depending about the rim to hold the attachment in posit-ion.
While the construction above referred to operates satisfactorily, so far as performing its intended. function concerned, at times the dough, or filling of the pie overflows the top edge of the fluted ring and passes down between the same and the outer ring and becomes baked therein, so that itis difficult to remove, and this has been found to be an objection.
The objects of my invention are to provide aconstruction having all the practical advantages of my said prior construction, but which permits ready separation of the rings for cleaning purposes, and equally ready replacement thereof.
I accomplish these objects by means of the construction hereinafter described and illus trated in the accompanying drawing, in which Fig. 1 is a plan view of an attachment embodying my invention.
Fig. 2 is a sectional view at line 2-2 of Fig. 1, on an enlarged scale.
Fig. 3 is a similar view of a slightly modified form of the invention.
Figs. 4 and 5 are detail views of sections of the member of the attachment.
In the drawing, a circular plate a having 7, 19.27.. seriaino. 231,559.
the bead will be formed in the material while it is in strip form, and when the ends of a section of the stri are connected, to form an attachment or a plate having a rim periphery of certain diameter,
the internal diameter of the ring portions at each side of the bead will be slightly greater than the. diameter of the rim, to permit said portionsto pass easily thereon, while the internal diameter of thebead portion will be somewhat less than the rim diameter, so that,
when the ring is placed over the plate rim one of the shoulders formed by its beaded portion will engage the top side of the rim and the ring will be supported thereon.
I further provide a transversely fluted ring 6, which is also formed of a strip of sheet metal and is of such external diameter that it may be removably fittedinto the ring 0, so that one edge thereof will either engage and rest on the bead d, as shown in Fig. 2, or, if made of slightly less diameter, will fit within the beaded portion and rest directly on the plate rim when inuse, as shown in Fig. 3. i
The portions of the ringo at each side of the head are of cylindrical formation and of equal diameter so that it is immaterial in practice which edge portion isplaced about the plate rim and which edge portion rethe rings will be removed and separated for;
washing purposes, if desired.
I claim:
1. A pie plate attachment comprising a flat metal ring having one of its edge portions of greater internal diameter than the diameter of the periphery of the plate rim in connection with which it is to be used, and having an intermediate inwardly proecting and circularly extending shoulder adapted and arranged to rest on the'rim to support the ring thereon, and a transversely fluted ring removably fitted within the opposite portion of said fiat metal ring.
2. A pie plate attachment comprising a flat metal ring having its edge portions of the ring thereon, and a fluted metal ring greater internal diameter than the greatest of less external diameter than the said edge diameter of the rim of the plate in eonnecportion of the flat metal ring and adapted 10 tion with which it is to be used and having to be removably fitted therein.
-5 an intermediate internally projecting head In testimony whereof, I have signed my of less internal diameter than said plate rim name to this specification. and adapted to engage the same to support WILLIAM HOUSTON.
