UNITED STATES PATENT QFFIGE.
ADOLPH SGHWARZ, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT. IN CAPS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 166,900, dated August 17, 1875 application filed August 6,1875.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ADOLPH SOHWARZ, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Caps 5 which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, in which- Figure 1 is a front view of my improvement when unfolded. Fig. 2 is a side view of the same, put up for use in warm or clear weather. Fig. 3 is a front view as used in cold or stormy weather.
Similar letters indicate corresponding parts.
My invention relates to that class of caps for which Letters Patent of the United States were granted to Moses Mendal March 2, 1875, No. 160,452, and of which I am the sole owner.
The novel feature of my invention consists in combining with a cap a single neck and ear muff, which is provided with fastening devices adapted to engage with a corresponding device secured to the cap in such a manner that the muff is capable of being wrapped around the ears, the neck, and the lower part of the face, and then fastened; or of being wrapped round the crown of the cap and fastened in this position, whereby I obtain an article possessing like advantages to a cap having more than a single muff, while the cost of the manufacture of my cap is less.
In the drawing, the letter A designates my cap, to which is connected a neck and ear muff, B, which may be made of similar material to the cap, or of different material. This mufl B has the form of a band, and it depends from the cap in such a way that, when the cap is put on, the mufl may be wrapped round the neck, the lower part of the face, and the ears and the cap being provided with a fasteningbutton, a, and the muff with a hole, b, the loose end of the mulf can readily be connected to the cap, as shown in Fig. 3, and thus the mufl' and the cap are held in position on ,the head. It is obvious that other devices may be used instead of the button and button-hole b c for fastening the muff. I
On the outer side of the muff B is secured a button, 0, and if my cap is to be rigged up for fair weather 1 wrap the muff B round the crown of the cap, as shown in Fig. 2, and cause the holeb to engage with this button 0, whereby the mufl is securely retained in position.
My cap is provided with a folding-visor, G, which is fastened in the proper position in such a manner that it may be brought in or out of use at will.
It will be readily understood that by using a single muff, the cost of the manufacture of my cap is less than when more than one muff is used, while, moreover, the same advantages are attained.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
As anew article of manufacture, a head-covering, consisting of the crown portion A, provided with a fastening device, a, and foldingvisor O, the elongated neck and ear muff B, provided with fastening devices I) c, substantially as described, and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 4th day of August, 1875.
