YWILLIAMVB. common, or SAN rnnncrsoo, CALIFORNIA.

Application filed April 8,
The object ofmy invention is to improve the construction of milk-top extractors, and to provide a simple, handy and efficient milk-top extractor which may readily be applied to the paper cap of a milk bottle and be easily manipulated to remove quickly the cap from the mouth of the bottle without splashing the contents of the latter.
with these and other objects in view, my invention consists in the construction and novel combination of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, and pointed outin the claims hereto appended, it being understood that various changes in the form, proportion, size and minor details of construction,
Within the scope of the claims, may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.
Figure 1 is a side View of one form of my milk-top extractor.
Figure 2 is av rear view of the same.
Figure 3 is a plan view.
Figure 4 is a side view of av modified form.
The preferred form of my milk-top extractor comprises a base 1, the same being slotted and slightly curved upward at one end 2, an oblong-shaped handle 6 running in a transverse direction to the base, secured at the center to a. standard 5 upstanding from said base to one side of the center directly opposite the slotted end of the base and a prong 3 terminating in a point at the engaging end 4, said prong projecting downwardly from one side of the center of said. base and to the right.
In my invention it is noted that the upright standard at one extremity is connected to the center of the handle at one point; that the other extremity is connected to the base at a second point; that the prong is connected to the base at a third point and that all three connecting points joining the above-mentioned parts lie in a vertical line through a point in the base located to one side of the center diametrically opposite the end of the base containing the slot. This feature, therefore, gives a stronger and more effective pull from the handle directly upon the prong and upon the base than in any other inventions where the pull is merely through the center of the base or upon a stationary fulcrum on the bottle or paper cap. It is believed too much importance 1926. Serial No. 100,698.
cannot be given this feature of my invent1on as it is one of the main features where in this device is new and novel and renders it different, more efficient and much superior to other devices of this class now 111 use.
This feature of the present device further I causes it to be different and more superior to other devices of this kind in the following respect, namely, that the pull on-the handle induces a stronger pull upon the prong by transforming one end of the base thereby into a fulcrum, which becomes fulcrumed against the fingers, and in this respect, being different, new and novel, differ ing thereby from other devices of this'nature wherein the fulcrum is against either the mouth of the bottle or the paper cap of the bottle. The whole device may be constructed of a light metal, such as aluminum,
prises a base 1, the same being slotted andv slightly curved upward at one end 2, an oblong-shaped handle 8 secured at an oblique angle forward, to a short standard 7 upstanding from said base to one side of the center thereof, a prong 2 with engaging end 4 sharpened to a point on all sides except the underneath, side thereof.- The prong 3 projects downwardly from one side of the center of the base and to the right.
In operation prong 3 is inserted through the center of the cap and the handle 8 held in the hand is lifted upward raising the cap slightly from one edge of the bottle in ad- Vance, whereupon the cap may be readily withdrawn from the mouth of the bottle.
Having described my invention, I claim:- 1. In a bottle opener, an elongated base,
standard and in line therewith, and then prong is a piece of sheet metal and the end turned parallel to the base, said prong of the prong is sharpened to a point on all crossing the oenterpoint of the base? and sides except the underneath side thereof so terminating in a sharpened end just below as to leave the bottom face flat whereby the 5 the free narrow edge of the base. 7 prong will tend to pass between plies of a 15 2. The device of claim 1 in which the top pasteboard bottle cap without forming an face of the handle slopes downward in't-he opening entirely through the cap. direction to which the sharpened end of the In testimony whereof I affix my signa prong points. ture.
l0 3. The device 0]": claim 1 in which the WILLIAM B. COTTON.
