Application med May 18, 1927. Serial n). 192,200.
This invention relates to pessaries, and its principal object is to provide a pessary havmg a tubular drain duct of novel construction. Another object is to materially reduce the cost of construction thereof. An-
other object is'to provide a solid-wall drain duct or tube and a novel construction of the parts, whereby the necessity for the use of gold in the manufacture of the device is 1 avoided.
With these and other objects and advantages in view, this invention consists in a pessary having a solid-wall drain duct; It further consists in the several novel features of construction, arrangement, and combination of parts hereinafter fully set forth and claimed.
The invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing, inwhich: 1
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a pessary, embodying a simple form of the present invention; Fig. 2 is a vertical cross section thereof; Fig.3 is a side elevation, partly broken out, illustrating the internal construction of certain parts; Fig. 4 is an elevation of the parts seen in Fig. 3, looking in the direction of the arrow 4 in Fig. 3; Fig. 5 is a vertical section of a drain duct member forming part of the device; Fig. 6 0 is a lan of the parts, seen in Fig. 3; and Fig. Tis a plan of the device with the fingers broken away. Figs. 2 to 7, inclusive, show the deviceupon anenlarged scale.
Referring to said drawing, which illus- 86 trates a simple embodiment of the invention,
the reference character 10 designates a conc'avo-convex head portion, 11 the drain duct or tube and 12 the retaining fingers or prongs of the device. The retaining fingers project from one end of the drain tube and extend at an angle to each other as is seen on Fig. 1. The fingers are formed of light gauze resilient material, such as wire, and may he formed of gold if desired. Upon the outer ends of said fingers are. secured pads or enlargements 13. Said retaining fingers orprongs act to hold the device in place when in use.
For the purpose of construction and assemblage of the parts; a short tube 14 is provided, to which the fingers are brazed or otherwise securely fastened. Conveniently the wall of the tube 14 is pressed inwardly Letters Patent:
at places opposite each other to form two grooves 15, in which the ends of the fingers are placed and secured therein as, for instance, by brazing them thereto. An outerlonger, tubular member 16, is placed around the tube 14, and the lower edgesof both tubes 14, 16 are brazed or otherwise secured to the middle portion of the'head 10. As a preference said head 10, contains an annular slot 17 around the adjacent end of the drain duct, and the latter is connected with the head by a web or other connecting piece 18. After the parts are assembled, as described, the device may be heavily gold plated or otherwise surface finished to meet the requirements.
In use the fpessary is inserted into the uterus with a suitable introducer which will pass through the annular slot 17 and hold the fingers or prongs together; or, as indi- I cated by the dotted lines at 19, a capsule,
such as is readily dissolved under the influence of the heat of the human body, is placed on the ends of the fingers, when pressed together, and the pessary inserted with the capsule member in place. In either case when the fingers are released they spread apart and engage with the walls of the uterus, thereby effectively suspendin the device in place. Because of the closed wall drain tube construction, a perfect drainage is afforded. Furthermore, the
' parts may be formed of less expensive material than gold; they are' readily assembled and provide a device which may be kept sanitary and antiseptic.
I claim as new and desire to secure by 1. A pessary comprising a head, a solid- I wall drain tube secured to said head. and resilient retaining fingers secured within and projecting from said drain tube.
2. A pessary comprising a head,a solidwall drain tube secured to said head, and
having lengthwise extending grooves formed 7 therein, and wire, retainingfingers secured insaid grooves and extending from said drain tube. x I
3. A pessary comprising a head, a solidwall draintube secured to said head and formed of an inner and an outer tube, said inner tube having grooves in its outer face, and resilient retaining fingers fixedly secured in said grooves, and extending out through said outer tube with their outer end portions lspnead apart. r 4. lAlflpessnlry comprising 11a; Concave-eon- 'vex head, having a central aperture, a solid wall drain tube of less diameter than said aperture and"seeured'fto said head,- there being an annular slot between said drain tube and edge of said aperture, said drain tube having an inner and an outer tubular mem- 10 bar, and resilient retaining. fingers fixedly securedbetween said inner and buter tubular members, and projecting from said drain tube with their end portions spread apart.
