UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CORNELIUS BAUER, OF CINCINNATI, OHIO.
I IMPROVEMENT IN VEHICLE-SPRINGS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 166,060, dated July 27, 1875; application filed June 21, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CORNELIUS BAUER, of Cincinnati, Hamilton county, Ohio, have invented a new and useful Vehicle-Spring, of which the following is a specification:
In the accompanying drawing, Figure l is a perspective view of my compound spring for vehicles. Fig.2 is a side elevation of the same. Fig. 3 is a section at the line 1 1; and Fig. 4 represents, by elevation and horizontal section, a modified arrangement for coupling the side bars to the ends of the semi-elliptic springs.
A may representany desired Wagon or buggy body. B B are two side spring-bars, having lugs b, by which to bolt them to the body, and a stili'ening-piece, b, at their middle portions.
These bars terminate in coiled extremities C, which are bolted to the ends of semi-elliptics D D.
In the modification of my invention, as shown in Fig. 4, the coiled extremity C of the stifiened side bar B b is represented as furnished with an eye, 0, for the reception of a screw-threaded shank, d, thelatter beingforged upon the end of semi-elliptic spring D.
E is a nut, wherewith the side bar B is attached to its supporting-spring D.
I claim as my invention- The vehicle-spring B B, having lugs b b, stiffening-pieces b b, and coiled extremities C C, in combination with the semi-elliptic springs D D, as set forth.
In testimony of which invention I hereunto set my hand.
CORNELIUS BAUER.
