This invention relates to head gears used generally as a sanitary and dust-proof head covering, to cover and protect the hair and scalp during medical, facial and hair treatments, massages or hair drying and also as a dust cap, the invention having for an object the provision of a novel paper head gear of this sort so as to provide a sanitary covering.

For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, and to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.

As here embodied my improved head gear comprises a paper piece 10, having a straight edge 11, and a curved portion 12, made of paper, preferably soft tissue paper, or crepe paper. The straight edge 11, is folded back on the dot and dash lines 13 and 14, so as to provide a reinforced portion 15, which extends across-the forehead of the wearer.

In applying my improved headgear to the wearer, the curved or rounded portion 12 extends over the sides and back of the head. The curved portion 12, is folded in pleats, or tucks as' designated by the reference numeral 16, at the sides of the ,head of the wearer, adjacent to the ears, so'as to permit my improved head gear to closely conform to and fit the head of the wearer.

As a means of attaching the tapes 17 and 17' or strings, to my improved head gear, 1 have provided elongated slots 18, formed or cut in the reinforced portion 15, at or near the extremities thereof, adjacent to the ears of the wearer, adapted to receive the tapes 17 and 17 which are extended through the said elongated slots 18, a knot 19 being tied in one extremity of the tapes 17 and a knot 19 being tied adjacent to the pleated portion 24, so as to prevent the tapes 17 and 17 from being pulled completely through the said elongated slots. I have also providedsimilar elongated slots 20,.formed or cut in the pleated portion 16 of my improved head gear, the latter described construction being such as will permit the tapes 17, when pulled tightly andtied together as at 23, at the front portion of my improved head gear to securely hold my improved head gear to conform-to and snugly fit the head of the wearer.

In Fig. 5 of the accompanying drawing, I have shown a second pleated or tucked portion 24, at the sides of my improved head gear at the rear of the above mentioned pleated portion 16, the latter described construction'being such as will permit my improved device to more snugly fit the head of the wearer.

It should be understood that the forward sections of the tapes 17 having the knots 19 and 19 therein are disposed rearwardly around the bottom edge portion of the head gear and that the knots 19 on the extremities of the tape17 engage a strip of the head gear between adjacent slots therein and crimp or pleat that portion of the sides of the head gear therearound. The knot 19' en gages a similar strip of the head gear portion thereof and when the tapes are pulled rearwardly causes that portion of the head gear near the second mentioned strips to be pleated or crimped. It should be understood that that portion of the side of the cap between the forward and rearward strips is not pleated or crimped, but retained smooth by the stretching action effected by the knot 19 when the rearwardly disposed sections of the tapes are pulled u on. The other end portions-of the tapes 1 are disposed forwardly around the lowermost edge portions of the side of the cap below the rearwardly disposed sections and are tied together at their extremities. The forwardly disposed sections of the tapes 17 bind the sides of the cap to the head of the wearer and permanently secure the pleated portions thereof preventing the same from being changed in position.

In Fig. 6 of the accompanying drawing, I have shown elongated slots 20 and 21, similar to the above mentioned elongated slots 18 and 20. The elongated slots 20 and 21, are formed or cut in the lower portion of the rear and front, respectively, of my formed between adjacent slots at a rearward as a means of more securely holding my im- 7 proved head gear in position on the head of the wearer.

While it has been described that my improved head ear is preferably made of paper, it is to is understood that any suitable material may beused.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to protect by Letpers Patent of the United States is as folows:

1. A head gear comprising a body portion of substantially cylindrical shape, a

bowl shaped crown portion integral with I the same, said extension terminating substantially adjacent the ears of a wearer and being provided with spaced slots in the extremities thereof, the cylindrical body portion being provided with spaced apart slots adjacent the extremities of said extension,

cords knotted at their ends disposed through the slots in said extension and through the slots in said body portion, and a knot intermediate the ends of said cords adjacent the slots in said bod f portion, said cords being adapted to be disposed rearwardly around the lower edge of said cylindrical body portion for drawing the forward ortion'of said body portion firmly against t e forehead of the wearer and for urging said knots rearwardly 'to pleat the portion of said body portion adjacent the slots for forming said head gear to the shape of the head of the wearer. j

2.'A head gear comprising a substantial- 1y cylindrical body portion having forward and rearward series of parallel slots extendingvertically in the intermediate portion thereof, the said series of slots being spaced apart, cords disposed through adjacent slots of the forward and rearward seriesofslots, a knot in the extremities of each of said cords, engaged against the first slot of the forward series of slots, a knot in the intermediate portion of each of said cords engaged against the first slot of the rearward series, said cords being disposed rearwardly around said headgear for pleating that portion thereof adjacent said forward and rearward series and disposed forwardly and tied together at the front of said head gear for pressing thelower portion of said head gear firmly against the head of a wearer to retain the pleats of said head gear as formed by the knots of said cords.
