V. HAVEMEYER SANDAL CASE Filed Sept. 12. 1925 Ill Ice
INVENTOR Ti ra flawmeyer BY m 1 M ATTORNEY Patented Feb. 14, 1928.
UNITED STATES VERA HAVEMEYER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
SA'NDAL CASE.
Application filed September 12, 1925. Serial No. 55,947.
My invention relates to asandal case and more particularly to one which is adapted to be attached to and carried in common with another article such as an umbrella, or it may be carried in a hand bag or in any other convenient manner.
I am aware that great inconvenience has been caused by one wearing sandals having no convenient method of carrying them in the event that they are no longer needed for protection against rain or moisture, and my invention aims to provide a convenient and satisfactory case whereby such sandals may be carried conveniently and unobtrusively.
The objects and benefits of my invention will be better understood from the following specification of which the drawings form a part.
In these drawings I show in Figure 1 a rear view of the case showing a method of application of the attaching members;
Figure 2 a front elevation of the case;
Figure 3 shows the application of the case to an umbrella;
Figure 4, is a top plan view of the case; and
Figure 5 is a front elevation of the case with its lower portion folded within the upper portion.
In the preferred embodiment of my invention I have a case member 1 which is so constructed that it conveniently holds a pair of sandals such as 2, 3, shown in Figure 2. The case member 1 has a lidor-closure 4 adapted to fit over and be retained by suitable means such as the strap 5 held by the buckle 6. This closure member is hinged as at 7. On the back of the case member I prefer to place two attaching members or straps 8 and 9, which may be slidablyheld by a strap or the like 10 aflixed to the case member 1. While I show these members 8 and 9 as straps, it will be obvious that many other attaching members may be used, depending upon the type of article to which the sandal case is to be atfixed.
I prefer to form the case member 1 of waterproof material, but it may equally well be made of many other materials, and in some instances the lower portion which I have designated as 1 may be of somewhat softer material than the upper portion, so
that the former may be folded within the latter when the case is empty, and thus reduce its size and contribute to the con venience of carrying.
One application of my invention is shown 1 in Figure 3, where the straps 8 and 9 are or the like without damage to the other contents of the hand bag, and still havethe sandals immediately available for use and out of the way when not in use. It will be apparent that the strap 10 which is dis posed longitudinally of the case throughout the stifiened area, thereof reinforces said case and also constitutes loops for the straps 8 and 9. Additionally, this strap 10 its upper end functions as a hinge for the lid or closure 4:. In other Words, the strap 10 serves a triple function by reason of its application and that is the reinforcing element for the case 1, loops for the securing of straps 8 and 9 and the hinge 7 forthe troni the spirit thereof, and all such changes and variations I desire to include within the scope .of my claims.
I claim:
1. A case of the character described, comprising a case member having a body closed at one end and open at its other end, aiswinging lid at the open end of the body, a strap longitudinally secured to the body and having its outer end swingingly connecting the lid with the body, and securing elements slidably engaged transversely in said strap for the connection of the case with an umbrella handle, said body for a major por tion of its length being-"of greater rigidity than the remaining portion thereof.
2. A sandal case, comprising in combination a container having an elongated relatively rigid body portion and a flexible bottom portion, said flexible bottom portion being adapted to fold up into said body portion to thereby considerably shorten the overall length of said container, said container being adapted to hold a pair of sandals when said body portion is extended, a lid for said container and means reinforcing :1 major part of the body portion and forming at hinge commotion for the lid, and a holder for fasteners to permit the body to be secured to a support. 10
In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification this 11th day of September, 192:)
