MICHAEL nAKorsKY, on NEW YORK, NQY.
CONVERTIBLE CARRIAGE STROLLER.
Application filed April 6, 1927.
simple construction whereby the carriage frame or body may be employed for two purposes.
One of the objects of my inventionis to provide a carriage having a foot rest with a removable and attachable front body section constructed and arranged to be attached to the gear or .spring of the body and over the foot rest.
Another object of my invention is to provide a convertible carriage and stroller in which the removable and detachable front body section is designed for attachment to the running gear, being a continuation of the rear body section and adapted to be positioned over a foot rest without interference therewith.
To enable others skilled in the art to more fully comprehend and understand the underlying features of my invention, drawings depicting a preferred form thereof are annexed hereto in which Fig. 1 is a view showing the application of my invention. 7
Fig. 2 is a view showing the removable front body section.
Fig. 3 is a sectional view showing the attaching means of the front body section to the gear.
4: is a detail showing the means for attaching'the spring portion of the removable front body section to the gear.
Fig. 5 is a top plan showing the front and rear body sections when connected.
Fig. 6 is a view showing the relation of the foot rest to the front body section.
Referring now to the drawings wherein like reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, 5, 6 designate the front andrear supporting wheels mounted on suitable axles 7, 8 on the'reach bars 9 which extend rearwardly and upwardly as at 10 to form the handles of the carriage and stroller. The main or rear body section 11 and hood 12 are mounted on a gear 13 having a rear spring 14. the front portion 15 of said gear extend ing downwardly and curved either upwardly or downwardly as at 16 for connection to the gear. The front portions of the gear are bent so as to permit the pivotal mount- Serial No. 181,563.
ing of a foot rest 17 on a cross rod 18 between the sides of the body, said foot rest being adjustable by means of a rearwardly extending rack bar 18 provided with notches 19 adapted to be engaged by a lug 20 or other suitable locking means.
Referring to Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawing it will be noted that when the carriagev is to be employed as a stroller, the front of the body section 11 is open and that the foot rest maybe adjusted as desired. Cooperating with the body section 11 I provide a removable frontbody section 20 having sides 21, 22and a closed front 23, the rear portion 24: of said body section being open. The sides are shaped to conform with the front edges of the sides of the rear or main body section so that when connected, a continuous carriage body will be presented.
Connected to the bottom of the front body A section, I provide a pairof metal straps'25 which may be fastened at the rear by means of threaded elements and nuts 26, 27 passing through the bottom of the main or rear body section and gear, thebent or bowed portion 28 of said straps being adapted for fastening to the front or curved portion 16. The front or curved portion of the straps act as springs for the front removable body when so attached, and the use of the carriage body as such does not in any way interfere with the foot rest directly beneath the same. On the other hand, when the front body section is not desired and is removed, the foot rest may be used in the well known manner.
The sides of the front and rear body sections may be securely connected at the top by means of short links 29 and fastening elements 30. and when so attached, a continuous carriage body is presented.
lVhile I have shown and described my invention with some degree of particularity, I realize that various changes in the form, construction and details shown may be made. I therefore do not wish to be limited or restricted to the exact embodiment shown but reserve the right to make such changes and alterations as may fairly fall within the scope of the subject matter being claimed.
Having shown and described my invention what I claim as new and desire tosecure by Letters Patent is A carriage of the class described comprising a running gear having a downwardly curved front portion, a main body section Ind closed at its rear and open at its front fixed on the gear, a pivotally connected foot rest between the sides of the front portion of the gear, a closed front body section open at its rear for connection to the open front of the main body section, straps on the bottom of the front body section adaptedtoextend befront downwardly curved section of the run- 7 ning gear.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
MICHAEL RAKOF SKY.
