Upon the window side of the blank 10 are two flanges, 17 and 18, the upper 17 being adapted to be secured to the face of post 16 in any suitable manner, while the lower one 18 is of a fold of material arranged parallel to and in alignment with the lower section of lintel 13. Intermediate the flanges}? and 18 is a cut-out section 19 which is adapted to receive the crimped,
, turned over or beaded edge of the lintel 13,
it being usual to reinforce and protect such edge in one of these manners. 7
A section of material 20 converging as it extends. away from the blank 10 is arranged upon'inner and uppermost margin of blank 10, integral therewith, and the extremity of section 20 is bent inwardly to provide engagementflwith a moulding 21, previousliy mentioned. An upper flange 22 upon moul ving 21 is secured to the face of lintel 13.
Such moulding or housin 21 extends over the bracket 10 (and the right hand bracket .10) and is adapted to engage at its lower edge just beneath section 20 the material of the window post 16. Moulding 21 is generally placed in position and firmly anchored after the brackets have been positioned and before the shade roller is hung or adjusted to proper tension.
'In bracket 10 is a slot 25." The lower end 26 of said slot 25 is enlarged to give it a substantially circular or truly circular configuration. Extending upwardly from said enlarged portion 26 the slot 25 is truly vertical or nearly vertical for a short distance and then is curved upwardlyand outwardly, terminating in a downwardlyextending substantially vertical portion 27.- Intermediate the two slot sections 25 and 27 is a pointed ortion 28 of the material of blank 10. The onger section 25 adjacent the pointed end of section 28 is enlarged or widened and the distance between the projection 28 and the opposite wall of slot 25 may be sufliciently augmented to permit the non-rotating end of the shade roller to be turned over therein. I 1
- Right'hand bracket 10 corresponds to bracket 10 in that parts 11, 12, 15, 17, 18 ,19, and 20 correspond to parts 11, 12, 15, 17, 18 19 and 20 on bracket 10. The slo construction is difierent for it is intended to receive the rotatable end of the shade roller. Slots 25 and 27 are of the same width throughout. At the bottom ofslot 25 isan inwardly dished section 26 and a similar dished section 29 is provided at the lower Theronnded end of the shade roller is disposed against seats 26 and 29 according to whether the shade roller is being adjusted or operably disposed.
- The brackets 10 and 10' are placed in potaut.
sition upon the lintel 13 and window post 16 in the manner indicated. A shade roller 30 is hung with its projecting end hearings in the slots 25 and 25 and rests in the lower ends of such slots. two telescoping sections, one of said sections 31 having movably disposed therein the squared or oblong lug 32 which is connected to the roller coil spring within section 31 as is usual in the shade roller art. Adjustments of lug 32 are latched by a dog 33 actuated by gravity. The other section 35 of the roller has the ordinary round axle or bearing 36. Intermediate the sections 31 and 35 is a locking member 37;
A crank or other member is used to rotate the spring in the roller 30. This'is done outside the housing 21. The adjustment should only be enough to hold curtain 38 The curtain fittings which ride in a vertical track in curtain moulding 38 hold the curtain in any adjusted position. Adjustments may be made after the roller 30 is placed and with the do" 33 up as shown in Figure 5. but in operably seating a curtain so adjusted, the position of dog 33 should be changed to that shown in Figure 6 by turning the curtain over. A stop 39 is provided upon bracket 10 to register with the fittings on shade 38 and to prevent the shade 38 from being forced too high.
' The inaccessibility to the shade in the old type ofroller shade mountings has caused the invention. A single position for the roller well obscured by window moulding 21 made removal, repositioning and adjustment of shade rollers a difiicult task. The provision of a guide providing several seats for a roller is novel. It is therefore my intention to claim this seat wherever found-in. a bracket as described, or in the lintel, post or moulding.
I claim a 1. As a new article of manufacture. a support for a window shade roller having one end to be held rigid during use comprising spaced brackets having an enclosed slot of two sections of different lengths joined at their top extremities.- the section of a less 'length in an inwardly hung bracket being further away from the window, the slot. in one ofsaid brackets being substantially the same width throughout, the slot in the other of said brackets having an enlarged portion at the lower end of the longer section to permit of free rotation of the shade roller without disturbing the tension of the spring therein.
2. As a new article of manufacture, a bracket for supporting that end of a roller shade housing a spring, and a dog for locking the roller and spring in selected position, a bracket comprising a blank of sheet material having a blind slot therein, said slot having an enlarged portion permitting Shade rollers comprise of free rotation of the shade roller and a narrow portion extending upwardly and outwardly therefrom and terminating in a vertical downwardly extending slot seating said roller in operable position and preventing rotation of said roller without change in the tension of the spring therein.
3. As a new article of manufacture, a bracket for holding roller window shades comprising a slotted member adapted to enclose the spring actuated end of the shade roller and formed from sheet material, the slot in said member having an enlarged portion from which a narrow section extends upwardly and forwardly to terminate in a shorter downwardly extending rollerseating 7 section, the junction between the two sections of the slot admitting of the roller being turned to facilitate its hanging, said member having marginal extension portions for securing it concurrently to the lintel, window stop and .moulding of a car, the portion adapted to be secured to said moulding con taining said shorter section of said slot.
I 4. A curtain roller bracket adapted to be disposed in the back portion of a housing having an inwardly and upwardl extending wall and comprising an enc osed slot extending from beneath said housing upwardly and adapted to guide a curtain roller to and from its operating position, said slot having a substantially straight vertical section effective to receive a roller in an accessible position for guidance to an inaccessible operative position. r
