1 1,649,909 PATENT OFFICE.
THOMAS F. MGKEON, OF FENTON, MICHIGAN.
FENCE POST.
Application filed June 12, 1924. Serial No. 719,478. i
My invention relates to a new and useful improvement in a fence post, and part1cularly that class of fence post made from concrete or other hardening plastic 'm aterialr An object of the invention is the provision of a fence post made from such material, having staple receiving means so that the wire may be easily and quickly attached to the post without necessitating the employment of any other attaching means than the usual staple adapted for this purpose.
Another object of the invention is the provision in a fence post made from the material mentioned having staple fastening means mounted in the fence post andprovided with securing means iinbedded in the post itself.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a reinforced concrete fence post having reinforcing strips extending long1- tudinally of the post and provided with securing means adapted for holding the reinforcing parts in relative position preliminary to the pouring of the plastic material about the reinforcing strips.
Other objects will appear hereinafter. The invention consists in the combinations and arrangements of parts hereinafterdescribed and claimed. l The invention will be best understood from a referenceto the accompanying drawings which form a part of this specification and in which,
Fig. 1 is a front elevational View of, the invention,
Fig. 2 is a rear elevational View of theinvention,
Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken substantially on line 3-3 of Fig. 1,
The invention, in its preferred form, comprises a fence p0st7, made from concrete or the like, having an ornamental cap or top 8 at its upper end. Imbeddedin the concrete post 7. so as to haveits outer face lie flush with the face of the post, is a board strip 9; Embracing the strip 9 and projecting into the concrete are U-shaped retaining clips 10 made from some suitable wire and having the ends 11 and 11 flared outwardly from each other, so as to provide means for normally'resisting their removal fromthe'post after the plastic material which has been poured around the same has hardened. EX-
tending longitudinally of the post are a pair of reinforcing members 12 and 12'. -These members extend substantially throughout the tened.
' said post.
means of U-shaped clips 13 which embrace two members, the Outer ends of the clips being outwardly flared as at 14 and 14'.
It will be noted that the wooden strip eX- tends along the post from a slight distance above the ground close to. the upper end of the post.- provide staple receiving means at that portion of the post, to which a wire may be fas- It' is, of course, evident that the. length of this strip or the'particularlocation of it is optional with the one making the post and depends largely upon the use to which thepost is to be put. It is also apparent that this strip of wood may be made .in sections, if desired.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred form of structure, I do not wish The'purpose of this strip is to V V to limit myself to the precise form of structure shown, but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claim.
Having thus described my lnvention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patentis: I p a A concrete fence post comprising" a main body portion; a pair oflongitudinally ex- .tending spaced reinforcing strips, of a width slightly less than the thickness of said post,
said strips at their longitudinal edges for retaining the same in operative relative po sition, the outer ends of said U-shaped clips being flared outwardly for preventing their removal from the concrete poured around said strips a wooden strip embedded in said main body portion between said reinforcing strips and having itsinner face projecting inwardly of one ,of the longitudinal edges of said strips, theouter face of said wooden post and the bightj of said U-shaped clips. I lying snugly in engagement with the outer surface of said wooden'strip, the ends of said legs of'said U-shaped clips being angularly turned'f-or preventing their removal from In testimony whereof,'. I have signed the foregoing.
embedded insaid post'and having their lonogltudinal edges within the marginal limits of said post; U-shaped clips for embracing
